2013 IMCA Modified, Northern SportMod rules announced Oct. 1

VINTON, Iowa (Sept. 28) – 2013 season rules for both the IMCA Modified and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod divisions will be released Monday, Oct. 1.

Rules will be posted on the IMCA website.

“The biggest addition to the Modified rules for next season will be the GM 604 crate engine option, which we announced in August,” stated IMCA Vice President of Operations Brett Root. “Specifics regarding that engine and associated rules, such as spoiler height, will be released next Monday.”

“We anticipate that the crate engine option for Modifieds will be the primary subject of discussion throughout what we consider our off-season,” he added.

Both shock and spring issues were specifically addressed in the Northern SportMod division.

“There are a lot of similarities between the cars and rules in the two divisions. The most identifiable difference is drivetrain and suspension,” said Root. “I recommend that current and future Northern SportMod drivers pay attention to the website on Monday.”

IMCA’s executive committee met this week and the 2013 Modified and Northern SportMod rules are being finalized this afternoon (Friday).

One or two other divisional rules will be released each week in October; as many as are completed will be published in the October newsletter.

“Our goal is to have 2013 rules for all divisions completed by Nov. 1,” Root said. “Drivers should note that they are still running under 2012 rules and will do so through the end of the season. New rules do not go into effect until Jan. 1, 2013.”
