V. WILSON WINS HIS 4TH A-MOD WIN IN A ROW, WHILE K. SMITH
GAINS B-MOD WIN #6;
KROG RETURNS TO WINNER'S CIRCLE IN ACTION-FILLED EXTREMELY CLOSE FINISH TO THE
SPORTSMAN FEATURE
Story submitted by Pamela Hassler
w/ promo by Ron Lueck - 24 Raceway, Moberly, MO.
MOBERLY, MO (June 9) - The racing action at Moberly's 24 Raceway on Saturday,
June 9 began after a beautiful performance from the sweet voice of 9-year-old
Rylee Kendrick (Macon) singing the National Anthem (and she'll be back soon).
The race event drew 91 race cars which provided fast competition and exciting
finishes enjoyed by a large crowd on a very comfortable night. It was a pleasure
to have a guest scorer, Tammy Old (Fulton) and a stand-in flagman for the heats,
Billy Hunholt (Moberly).
The intermission show featured the Dukes of Hazzard gang, Randolph County
version, sponsored by the Larry and Delina Prather family. It was fun to watch
the antics of Bo and Luke in the General Lee and the other characters from the
TV series. The Prathers also donated a Dukes of Hazzard die cast car actually
signed by Cletus and Enos from the show. Bandi Rapps of Centralia was the lucky
recipient of the special car. T-Shirts from the 2007 Dukefest, courtesy of the
Prathers, were also given as prizes.
Other contributors of prizes were Auto Zone (die cast cars), Simpson Imports
(adult caps), C.B. Riley, the track chaplain (Racer's Bible), Country Kitchen
(meals), Burger King (sandwiches), and Lee's Chicken ($25 meal). Thanks to these
and all others who support the track.
Hartgrove Bulldozing of Clarence once again donated a bicycle and helmet.
McKenzie Kinyon (7 years old, Jacksonville) was the happy winner.
Doyle Shahan (Moberly) held the lucky ticket to the 50/50 Drawing
and accepted $113.
CORRECTION:
Apologies to Jim Gillenwater, B-Mod driver from Keokuk, Iowa. He was the actual
2nd place finisher in the May 26 feature!

RACE RESULTS:
HOBBY STOCKS:
Pole sitter Clinton "Pinkie" Dale (#11PW Jacksonville), who has filled the seat
of injured Mike Wolfe, proved to be a great friend to take the car to victory
for the 2nd week in a row. Following in 2nd was was Tom Elsen (#11 Clarence) who
held off quite a few racers battling for positions in side-by-side competitions.
Coming in 3rd was Tim Dawson (#28 Callao)edging out Alan Hultz (#51 Madison) and
Darrell Nickerson (#32 Moberly) who fought for the 4th and 5th spots
respectively. Dale stated that this was an 'exciting place' and it's 'been fun'.
He thanked his sponsors, family, and fans and was glad his 'Fan Club' was still
hangin' in there.
HORNETS:
After some 'tech' decisions, several Hornets started at the rear of the 12 lap,
20-car feature. When a car blew an engine causing oil to make a slick track off
of turn 4, a few cars spun and bumped and had to go for infield service. A close
race resumed with Kristi Chase (#33 Clark) crossing the line behind Brooke
Hassler (#21 Columbia), the 2006 Hornet Champion, who finally accepted his 1st
feature win this season. Robert Winfrey (#37 Moberly) started from the rear and
worked through the pack to finish 3rd. Vince Jasper (#K2 Clarence) didn't quite
get past Paul Stine (#5 Clarence) at the end and finished in 5th position behind
Stine. Hassler stated that an incident last week was 'not intentional' and that
this week it was nice to hear the cheering fans, and then he thanked his
sponsors and family.
A-MODS:
This 20 lap feature began 18 race cars. For the fourth week in a row, Vance
Wilson (#1v Frankford) accomplished a 'winner's feat' by holding off a few heavy
pressure competitions behind him. Brandon Lennox (#22c New London) put on a show
to land the 2nd place as he slipped through Mike Hoover (#71 Mexico) and Scotty
Roberts (#25 Columbia) who finished 3rd and 4th. Dave Holder (#4G Clarence)
claimed the 5th place after a problem caused him to restart in the rear. Wilson
thanked 'everyone who helped' him and that he checks his car each week to be
ready to race at other tracks in Illinois. Wilson is now only ten points behind
Lennox , who is 46 points behind Holder for the 2007 season points lead. And
after a meeting prior to the night's events, the A-mod drivers present voted to
go ahead and compete in the June 30th double points racing night, with the
Firecracker Forty coming only three days later.
MFA OIL / BREAK TIME SPORTSMAN:
Even though there were several 'yellows' to be endured, the feature's 12 laps
were very exciting with many big chases throughout the pack. A 'green, white,
checkered' finish mixed things up with the top runners blasting out of turn 4.
Larry Krog (#6K Clarence) grasped the opportunity and slipped through to capture
his first fantastic win in his own car this season. ( He won on May 26 in a
borrowed Jeff Creed #01K car!) Surprised by this pursuit but racing a hard
fought race was 2nd place
finisher Butch Bailey (#111 Novelty) after leading most of the race laps. Pete
Agee (#14 Huntsville) fell into 3rd in an extremely close finish. Making some
good moves was heat winner Chad Walter (#23 Clarence) in for 4th, and Charlie
Rindom (#42 Moberly) was placed in 5th. Walter now passes Rindom for the 2007
season points leadership. Great race for the fans. Krog said it was a 'good
ride'!
MOBERLY MOTORS B-MODS:
Back to the winner's circle was Kelly Smith (#82 Kirksville) after leading the
15 lap race of 13 cars. Charging past the line in 2nd was a great competitor and
friend of Smith's in Tony Garner (#20 Macon), followed by Gary Wilson (#11
Holliday - who held the 'crown' for a week after beating Smith in last week's
great race). Charging into 4th was Kevin Embree (#61 Paris) and 5th was Dustin
Boling (#36 Lentner). Smith was pleased with his win and said the 'motor goes
good when the track is slick'. He is currently 54 points ahead of Garner in the
2007 points standings.
June 16: The Mid West touring series of the Fastrak Late Models is scheduled to
be at Moberly's 24 Raceway this coming Saturday night. This will be a "first"
for a crate-engine class at the 1/2 mile track, and will be running with the
five regular classes of A-Modifieds, Moberly Motors B-Modifieds, the MFA Oil /
Breaktime Sportsman class, Hobby Stocks and 4 cly. Hornets. Admission for this
big show is $15 to the grandstand for adults, with kids, ages 6 to 12, still at
$5 to see these five exciting stock car classes along with the Dirt Late Models.
If you visit the website of www.fastrakracing.com , you can get more info on
this crate engine series and for those wanting more particulars, there are phone
numbers available on that site. Don't miss out on this one! A printable flyer is
available on the Heartland Motorsports website, as well as on the Quad State
Dirt Racing and our own site. Rates for that affordable Family Pass are $35 for
this coming Saturday night, and that includes admission to the grandstands for 2
adults and 3 children, ages 6 to 12. Kids under 6 are always free. The
grandstands will open at 4 p.m. Pit Passes will cost you only $22 apiece. Hot
laps start at 6:15 following a short drivers' meeting. "Dirt Track Racing at its
Best" will take place again starting at 7pm at 24 Raceway, east of Moberly,
Missouri on U.S. Highway 24. Action photos from 24 Raceway can be seen at
www.24racewayinmoberly.com , if you simply click on the forum and chose the
heading. Plenty of door prizes are given away to both adults and kids alike in
the grandstands each and every Saturday night. In the Jr. Race Fan Club, a lucky
little one gets to take home a shiney new bicycle from different generous
sponsors each week and have their name mentioned in the following week's race
report. But you do have to be at 24 Raceway to sign up in order to claim the
prize!
