AFTER SOME HEAT WINS, LENNOX GETS DESERVED FEATURE WIN IN
25-LAP A-MOD RACE
Submitted by Pamela Hassler w/ repeated promo by Ron Lueck - 24 Raceway,
Moberly, MO
MOBERLY, MO. (July 9) - On Saturday, July 7, wheels were rolling hot and fast on
90 race cars at Moberly's 24 Raceway, Missouri's display of "Dirt Track Racing
at its Best". On this special night, drivers were chasing after the double
points- some wanting to enhance their lead and some wanting to catch up. Others
with a registered '7' in their car number were anxious to capture their
feature's checkered flag to pocket an extra $70 as the date for this race was
07-07-07! Unfortunately, no one received that bonus although a couple came
close. A feature payout increase in all classes plus tow money for cars not
making the feature was also an incentive. The added attraction for the evening
was the Mechanic's Race in the Sportsman division.

RACE RESULTS:
HORNETS:
Going into turn one at the onset of this 12-lap event, race cars traveled 3
wide. Good battles among 21 cars continued throughout the race. Chad Hickam (#9H
Hallsville) took the lead on lap 3 and fended off close competitor Rob Chase (#3
Clark) who had to settle for 2nd. Kristi Chase (#33 Clark) made impressive
challenges on Rob Chase but fell just a little short and came in 3rd. Working
hard in 4th was Brooke Hassler (#21 Columbia). John Brown (This week in #02A
Huntsville) came in 5th. Hickam extended his season points lead.
MFA OIL / BREAKTIME SPORTSMAN:
Dominating this 12-lap feature and starting 16 cars was Larry Krog (#6K
Clarence) who took an early lead. But he was given a hard chase by Pete Agee
(#14 Huntsville) who traded places a few times, and both tried different lines
to gain the lead. Tim Eravi (#3 Moberly) was running very well in the mix and at
the end captured the 2nd place finish, his best yet. Joni Petersheim (#6J
Sturgeon) powered through the field and found the 3rd spot. Also making big
efforts and racking up 4th was Jeff Creed (#01 Cairo). After slipping back on
the last lap Agee (#14) still managed to seize the 5th spot. Krog stated, "It
was a good competition between me and Pete". He thanked his sponsors and took
over the season points lead.
MOBERLY MOTORS B-MODIFIEDS:
Seventeen cars started this 15-lap competition. Coming out of turn two, cars
were 4-wide. Craig Spegal (#7 New London) had a great opportunity to pocket the
$70 special for having a '7' as a car number but unfortunately blew an engine. A
super race occured between Bob Woodrow (#3 Hannibal) and Kelly Smith (#82
Kirksville) but in the end Woodrow found the checkered flag as he powered past
the current point leader Smith, who collected the 2nd spot. Porter Collins (#46
Clarence) had a great driving performance and finished in 3rd but unfortunately
his car was disqualified due to a 'weight' problem. So in his place Gary Wilson
(#11 Holliday) accepted the 3rd position. Giving Wilson a duel for several laps
was 4th place finisher Dave Kinder (#40 Moberly). Having a good run also was
Steve Robinson (#10 Huntsville) who started 14th and charged through the field
and took over the 5th spot. Woodrow said the 'track was smooth' and his 'car was
great' but most of all he 'had a lot of fun'! He thanked his sponsors. Good
race! Glad to see him back at Moberly.
HOBBY STOCKS:
Only 12 cars started the 12-lap race but the close racing - many times as a
5-way competition - really put on a good show for the fans. It was actually a
2-pack race with the top five racing ahead of the rest of 'em racing on their
own. The great race included several passes and at the end the victor was Alan
Hultz (#51 Madison) as he led coming out of turn 4 on the last lap. After racing
in third through most of the race, Tim Dawson (#28 Cllao) made his move to
finish 2nd. Tom Creed (#17 Moberly) lead the biggest part of the race but was
passed at the end and collected the 3rd place. Also in the mix were Kevin
Renzelmann (#41 Huntsville) and Darrell Nickerson (#32 Moberly) who passed the
line in 4th and 5th respectively. It was a close finale!
A-MODIFIEDS:
A good race developed among 23 cars throughout this fast 25-lap feature. Mark
Dotson (#85D Cameron) held off a strong field of cars for about 10 laps. On a
restart Brandon Lennox (#22C New London) took the high line and passed Dotson,
then charged ahead and remained glued to that lead into victory lane for his
first time this season. Dotson still raced very well and claimed the 2nd prize.
A good challenge occured between three top contenders. Steve Payne (# 71A
Fulton), David Holder (#4G Clarence), and Kelly Smith (#41 Kirksville) put on a
good show to finish 3rd, 4th, and 5th respectively. Lennox said it had 'been a
long time' and that he was traveling to Quincy, IL for a Sunday race. C.B Riley
presented him with a Racer's Bible. Good show!
SPORTSMAN'S MECHANIC'S RACE:
Eight 'new' drivers began the 5-lap race and in the end a 3-way challenge
resulted with Dwayne Eravi (#3 Tim Eravi's car - Moberly) capturing the
checkered flag and trophy. He just passed Jimmy Pool (#7). Coming in 3rd was
Jason Rindom (#42 Charlie Rimdom's car - Moberly). These three all remembered
how to race, as they drove as a three-some at the front of the pack. Fun race!
Next week Saturday July 14, the First Annual Bob Whitehead Memorial brings back
the Winged Outlaw Warriors in their 360 cubic inch Sprints, for their third
appearance at 24 Raceway this season. Rusty Potter and Brian Brown should both
be in the field to see if they can capture a second win in the same year at this
very fast 1/2 mile track in some exciting Sprint car racing! These are just two
of the guys who have hit those 122 mph speeds at the Moberly track. Most folks
who have been fans of the dirt-track racing over the years know of Bob Whitehead
as one of the original builders of this high-banked facility, located just
outside and east of Moberly. This track was constructed in the late '80's with
the sprint car racing in mind, and this is simply a way to honor his memory. His
grandson, Jordon Whitehead, is to be in attendance & racing in the A-mod class.
Also running their own race programs this coming Saturday evening are the five
regular classes of A-Modifieds, Moberly Motors B-Modifieds, the MFA Oil /
Breaktime Sportsman class, Hobby Stocks and 4 cly. Hornets.
Admission will be $15 to the grandstand for adults, with kids, ages 6 to 12,
still only $5 to see the five regular classes AND the Sprints. Rates for the
Family Pass are $35, and that includes admission to the grandstands for 2 adults
and 3 children, ages 6 to 12. Kids under 6 are always free. The grandstands will
open at 4 p.m. Pit passes will now cost $25, and this comes with a payout
increase in all five classes for the second half of the season. Hot laps are at
6:15 following a short drivers' meeting. "Dirt Track Racing at its Best" will
take place again at 7pm at 24 Raceway, east of Moberly, Missouri on U.S. Highway
24. Additional photos can be seen at
