BLACKBURN TRIUMPHS OVER TOUGH GROUP OF COMPETITORS IN A-MOD
RACE, WHILE SMITH EXTENDS SEASON POINT LEAD IN B-MODS
Report by Pam Hassler & repeated promo by Ron Lueck - 24 Raceway, Moberly, MO.
MOBERLY, MO (July 21) - Saturday night, July 21, Moberly's 24 Raceway welcomed
and enjoyed the 'hum and buzz' of the Classic Dwarfs and Mod-lites as an added
attraction to the Weekly Racing Series. Lots of action and close challenges in
all the classes entertained the crowd of race fans, a few visiting from the
racing state of North Carolina. The 50/50 Drawing winner was one of those fans
(Bobby Lewallen, High Point, NC) who pocketed $152. After the Invocation was
given by Track Chaplain C.B. Riley, the National Anthem was nicely sung by the
big voice of 'Heavy Duty', a member of David Holder's pit crew, aka Derrick.
Many thank-you's to the sponsors of 24 Raceway and to the many generous
providers of prizes.

RACE RESULTS:
HORNETS:
The biggest part of the 18-car competition had Chad Hickam (#9H Hallsville) and
Rob Chase (#3 Clark) in a neck and neck challenge with Kristi Chase (#33 Clark)
closing in from starting mid-pack. A red flag situation after damage to at least
7 cars in turn 2 caused a slight delay, and most restarted with just 3 laps to
go. K. Chase was one who had to retire to the pits. When the track was cleared
of damaged cars, the race resumed with Hickam picking up another win and with R.
Chase accepting 2nd. Coming in 3rd was Galen Hassler (#25 Hallsville) who
continued racing after being damaged in the crash and running with very little
water left in the radiator. Vince Jasper (K-2 Clarence) grabbed the 4th spot
followed by Robert Winfrey (#37 Moberly) for 5th. Good job!
HOBBY STOCKS:
Kevin Renzelmann (#41 Huntsville) picked up his first victory of the season by
competing in a super competition with 2nd place finisher Mike Wolfe (#11W
Madison) and 3rd place finisher Alan Hultz (#51 Madison). Most of the race was
driven by these three drivers in 3-wide action, trading places often throughout.
It was good to Wolfe back in action after a long layoff from his May 19
injury/accident. Charging hard to capture the 4th spot was Tom Elsen (#11
Clarence) followed in 5th by Tom Creed (#17 Moberly). Renzelmann stated that he
had a 'lot of fun' and thanked the guys 'who keep the car running". Exciting
event!
CLASSIC DWARFS / MOD-LITES:
David Raffurty (#64 Kansas City) and Blake David (#11 Fulton) had a super
competition throughout the race. Young, but skillful, David made great attempts
but had to settle for 2nd. Raffurty said that 24 Raceway was a 'nice track' and
thanked them for having the Dwarf/Mod-lites. Ben Burnett (#40B Vandalia) powered
into the 3rd spot and was chased by Mark David (#76 Mexico). Coming over the
line in 5th was Jim Seichepine (#181 Topeka, KS). Nice race!
MOBERLY MOTORS B-MODIFIEDS:
Kelly Smith (#82 Kirksville "Komet") captured another fabulous win but had
hard-charging Bob Woodrow (#3 Hannibal) right on his tail. Smith said that
'anytime you beat Bob Woodrow, you're doing something'. He 'loved racing Bob and
a lot of these guys'. Gary Wilson (#11 Holliday) was next and all alone as he
cruised over the line for 3rd. A 5-way race occurred for the 4th & 5th places
between 5 other drivers with Charles VanBoening (#6v Paris) coming in 4th,
followed by Billy Bentley (#4B Madison). Super race!
MFA OIL / BREAKTIME SPORTSMAN:
Larry Krog (#6K Clarence) once again enjoyed victory as he battled side-by-side
and then passed Jeff Creed (#01 Cairo) toward the end of the race. Charlie
Rindom (#42 Moberly) had a good run into the 3rd spot as he competed with
Derrick Agee (#14JR Huntsville) who racked up the 4th place. Randy Rindom (#84
Moberly) topped off the 5th place. Rick Girard (#00 Columbia) had a nasty
tumble, rolling over in turn 2 during his heat race, but got the car running
enough to take at least one lap in the feature, then pulling it in.
A-MODIFIEDS:
In a somewhat rare driving visit to 24 Raceway, Gary Blackburn (#26 Fulton) had
a great run, first holding off his son, Kevin, in the heat race, and then last
week's winner Scotty Roberts (#25 Columbia) in the feature. The competition was
fast, clean, and close. Tightening up to the leaders to finish 3rd was Mark
Dotson (#85D Cameron) followed by Vance Wilson (#66 Frankford). Charging in as
well was impressive Kenny Mudd (#07 Winfield) who snagged the 5th position,
after running as high as 3rd. There's usually some excellent racing in the
fastest class of A-mods, and this night was no exception!
Following the five regular classes of A-Modifieds, Moberly Motors B-Modifieds,
the MFA Oil / Breaktime Sportsman class, Hobby Stocks and 4 cly. Hornets next
week on Saturday July 28, will be the 4th of the season's Mechanic's Races. This
time the guys who attend to the B-Mods will get their chance at driving the open
wheel cars. Admission will be $10 to the grandstand for adults, with kids, ages
6 to 12, at $5 to see the five regular classes and B-mod mechanic's race. Rates
for the Family Pass are $25, and that includes admission to the grandstands for
2 adults and 3 children, ages 6 to 12. Kids under 6 are always free. The
grandstands will open at 4 p.m. Pit passes are $25. Hot laps are at 6:15
following a short drivers' meeting. "Dirt Track Racing at its Best" will take
place again at 7pm at 24 Raceway, east of Moberly, Missouri on U.S. Highway 24.
Additional photos can be seen at www.24racewayinmoberly.com . Watch for more
events at 24 Raceway being added to the schedule for August & September. These
should include a return of the Classic Dwarf/ Mod-Lites at least once more, and
quite possibly another LateModel show. Listen for more announcements and watch
the forum part of the website.
