BRIAN BROWN LEADS ALL 20 LAPS TO VICTORY IN THE FALL CLASSIC
360 SPRINT SHOW AT 24 RACEWAY
by: Report by Pamela Hassler, with repeated promo by Ron Lueck - 24
Raceway, Moberly, MO.
MOBERLY, MO (Sept. 17) - A beautiful crisp Saturday evening on Sept. 15, 2007
brought 96 race cars to the high-banked dirt oval of the 24 Raceway in Moberly,
MO for the 360 Fall Classic. On hand for their 4th appearance this season were
the fast Winged Outlaw Warriors (W.O.W.) 360 cu.in. Sprint Cars racing in
addition to the regular classes of cars. Before the racing action began, 23 race
cars and 10 track vehicles sat in silence on the front stretch for the memory of
Bob Hubert, who passed away unexpectedly on Friday night, Sept. 14. Known as Mr.
Mopar, Hubert was the owner of the #40 B-Modified driven by Dave Kinder and was
a long-time mechanic. Two parade laps of the vehicles led by Kinder was a
touching tribute to a nice man who will be greatly missed. The track personnel
and friends express their deep condolences to his family.
THANKS TO:
**Doug Mealy - the voice of 24 Raceway who each week gives lap by lap reviews as
well as all the 'between races' information.
**Levi Gingerich - Head of Track Preparation - who does his best to prepare a
great racing surface, and did a lot of the work replacing the 37 feet of
concrete wall in turn 4.
**Ray Norton of Norton Concrete and Rick Thompson of R & B Construction for
their much appreciated assistance in that wall repair, needed after the
SpeedBowl Hornet race.
**Simpson Imports of Columbia and Kathy & Gene Davidson of Moberly, who were
each the generous contributors of a shiny bicycle, won by Alexis Wolfe (6 yrs.
old - Madison) and Jonathon Eberhart (4 yrs. old - Moberly). Jonathon's
grandmother, B. J. Shakespeare of Jacksonville was the lucky winner of $155 in
the 50/50 Drawing. Congratulations!
**Other prize contributors:
KZZT Radio (105.5 FM) - KC Royals tickets
Pizza Hut of Moberly
Fantastic Caverns of Springfield
Domino's Pizza
McDonalds - 10 ice cream cones
Funny Pages Cafe of Moberly - biscuits and gravy
PepsiAmericas - T-shirts
RACE RESULTS:
HORNETS:
Once again, Rob and Kristi Chase, a husband and wife team, earned the front row
feature seats from winning their respective heats, but this time with better
results at the checkered flag than that unfortunate double roll over back on
July 28. Rob (#3 Clark) took off and kept a big lead throughout and accepted yet
another win for the season. The next 4 spots were generally a close
follow-the-leader. Jerry Warren (#04 Moberly) crossed the line in 2nd. Kristi
Chase (#33 Clark) battled with Devin Still (#73 Anabel) and finally passed under
him on the last lap to gain the 3rd spot in front of Still who took 4th.
Following nearby and making good passing attempts was 5th place finisher John
Doctorian (#2 Wentzville). Good race!
HOBBY:
Kevin Renzelmann (#41 Huntsville) was victorious once again, this time running
the low line around the turns. He was challenged often by Clayton Crump (#3C
Centralia) who had to settle into the 2nd place. Tom Creed (#17 Moberly) had a
good run and finished 3rd after battling side by side with Tom Elsen (#11
Clarence) who followed in 4th. Steve Hisle (#01 Liberty) accepted 5th after
taking advantage of a spin by DeWayne Eravi (#3 Moberly) with 4 laps to go. Way
to go, guys!
MOBERLY MOTORS B- MODS:
Bob Woodrow (#3 Hannibal) led all of the 15 laps in the caution-free feature to
accept yet another victory. Some very close competition occured between Gary
Wilson (#11 Holliday) and Jeff Waterman (#71 Quincy, IL) which resulted in
Wilson taking 2nd followed in 3rd by Waterman. Craig Spegal (#7S New London)
made impressive moves from the rear of the pack to work up to 4th place. Michael
Bliven (#38JB Quincy, IL) grabbed 5th, and with a nice fan club present. Good
driving!
W.O.W. (WINGED OUTLAW WARRIOR) 360 CU.IN. SPRINT CARS:
Because of some sprinkles from the sky, the decision was made to bump up the
Sprint Car 360 Fall Classic feature to this position in the show. Five cars
advanced to the rear of the main feature by qualifying from the Consolation
Race. Gabe Maycock (#86M Middletown) won the Consi, followed in order by Curtis
Evans (#1P Norborne), Curtis Boyer (#72 New Haven), Kim Kennedy (#1K St.
Joseph), and Dustin Barks (#22x Farmington).
The feature event displayed powerful motors and fast action. Brian Brown (#21
Grain Valley) refused to lose and stormed into the lead which took him to the
checkered flag. Randy Martin (#14 California) also chased after the win but
earned a respectable 2nd. Earlier in the race a young hard-charger, Jon Corbin
(#4X Carrolton), unfortunately blew an engine from his 2nd place, but could have
been a top contender after he'd won his heat race and started on the front row
of the feature. Terry Hinck (#21H Boonville) maintained his 3rd place throughout
followed in 4th by Natalie Sather (#94 Fargo, North Dakota), who drove with
impressive confidence. Crossing the line in 5th was Jonathan Cornell (#28
Sedalia). These cars could stick to this track and the front runners drove like
they were on a rail. Super nice race!
MFA OIL/BREAK TIME SPORTSMAN:
Jeff Creed (#01 Cairo) and Pete Agee (#14 Huntsville) had quite an engaging
competition for several laps until Agee unfortunately had a spin in turn 2.
Creed then succeeded in holding his lead to victory. A duel then tightened up
with Rick Girard (#0 Columbia in Creed's back-up car) sliding in front of 23
year old birthday boy Randy Rindom (#42X Moberly) to accept 2nd and 3rd
respectively. Young Derrick Agee (#14Jr Huntsville) stayed at the front of the
pack in 4th place. Coming in 5th after charging up from the rear was Billy Apel
(#4 Renick). Good Show!!
A-MODIFIEDS:
Vance Wilson (#66 Frankford) managed to hold off one of the hottest drivers in
the area, visitor Danny Crane (#78 Columbia who won the Point Championships at
both Callaway Raceway and Lake Ozark Speedway). It was quite a show between
these 2 super drivers. The next four racers searched desperately and provided
great entertainment with side by side racing and passing. Crossing the line in
3rd was Joe Bradshaw (#8X Sedalia). Fourth through sixth positions went to Kenny
Mudd (#07 Winfield), Terry Wilson (#15 Bowling Green - who powered up through
the pack from the last position), and Kelly Smith (#82 Kirksville). Good racing
once again!
Next week, Saturday September 22, the racing season will conclude at Moberly's
24 Raceway with the annual S.S. Autosport.com All-Star race. The five classes
that have competed each Saturday night of the 2007 season will race one more
time, with five special ten-lap races following the night's regular features.
The winner of each of these additional ten-lap races for all of the five weekly
classes of A-modifieds, Moberly Motors B-mods, Sportsman, Hobby Stock and 4
cylinder Hornets will get their car's picture posted for the 2008 season on the
website banner for www.24racewayinmoberly.com .
Be sure to check the website under the forum section for the complete qualifying
list of the drivers having already made the All-Star race, sponsored by
SSAutoSport.com. Those already qualified for this All-star race are those teams
finishing in the top 5 in season points, along with any drivers having won a
feature during the 2007 season. As of this writing, the A-modified class has
that largest number of qualifiers at 12 racecars. In addition, the driver
winning the feature this Saturday, along with the heat winners, will
automatically qualify.
Come and enjoy this final Saturday night of stock car racing this season, where
"Dirt Track Racing at its Best" happens again at 24 Raceway, east of Moberly,
Missouri on U.S. Highway 24. Adult admission to the grandstand will be $10, kids
are $5 for ages 6 to 12, and the stands will open at 4 p.m. Rates for the
popular Family Pass are $25, and that includes admission to the grandstands for
2 adults and 3 children, ages 6 to 12. Kids under 6 are always free. Racing
starts at 7 p.m. with hot laps at 6:15 following a short drivers' meeting.
You'll need to be there to enjoy Dirt Track Racing at its Best, or wait 'til the
2008 season if you miss this one!
