IN A-MOD RACE, HOLDER GETS WIN AS LONG GETS DQ'D AFTER FEATURE AT 24 RACEWAY

MOBERLY, MO (June 14) - A 3rd Saturday night in a row with great weather to go with a good size crowd and great racing in all six classes at 24 Raceway, including the rescheduled Gary Scott Memorial W.O.W. Sprint race. And also for the 3rd Saturday in a row, the entire show was a decent time length of right at 3½ hours.

In A-modifeids, after Michael Long simply moved out front by lap 5, and on each successive restart thereafter following three cautions, his car didn't pass the tech inspection following the 20-lap race. His Quincy car was the one to beat in the feature, as the heat winners Casey Pearson and David Holder didn't have anything for him. Clarence's Holder, the recepiant of the win by default, managed to stay in a tie for the season points lead with Brandon Lennox of New London. Lennox was in a tight race with Pearson, who also moved up to finish in the 2nd position after Long's dq due to car height issues. Lennox then got the 3rd place finish. Long, who would have had his 2nd win in 2 weeks, did say in the interview after the race "it's good to be here every week".

The big feature for the evening was the rescheduled Gary Scott Memorial Winged Outlaw Warriors race with 19 winged 360 cubic inch sprintcars. Jon Corbin jumped into the lead from his pole position, over two other heat winners, Randy Martin and Jonathan Cornell, and led all twenty laps in this one. There were a couple of yellow flags, but Corbin, who hails from Carrollton, left last year's winner of this race, Rusty Potter, and Terry Hinck to fight for 2nd midway through the race. These two from Boonville traded places near the end and on lap 19, Cornell got around Potter to finish in 3rd, just behind Hinck.

In the MFA / Break Time Sportsman class, Moberly's Clinton Dale got win # 2 for the 2008 season to maintain his points lead over Tim Eravi and Chad Walter, both tied for 2nd in points. Eravi, also of Moberly, finished 2nd behind Dale, followed by Casey Walter in 3rd.

Columbia's Mark Forrester, the pole winner, led the 1st four laps of the Moberly Motors B-modifieds, until Gary Wilson of Holliday passed for the lead. Forrester stayed even with a hard charging Brian Robinson for much of the rest of the race, but managed to secure a 2nd place finish behind Wilson. Robinson, of Moberly, got 3rd place in this 15-lap race. After his win, Wilson "thanked all the Veterans and racefans" and wished all a Happy Father's Day. It was his 2nd win, coming a month after the 1st one, and keeps him as the 2008 points leader.

Alan Hultz and Tim Dawson, starting on the front row for the Hobby Stock race, ran off and left the rest of the pack after the lap one restart. Hultz, driving the 11w car of fellow Madison resident Michael Wolfe, won with Callao's Dawson following in 2nd and both were a half lap ahead of the others.

The 4 cylinder Hornet class was won by Clark's Rob Chase, who led all 12 laps in this caution-free race. Robert Winfrey got 2nd for the 2nd week in a row, as Columbia's Brooke Hassler tried hard to get by the pole sitter, John Doctorian of Wentzville, for the entire race. Hassler finally got by and into the 3rd position on lap 11, only to get nipped at the finish line by Doctorian. Good racing.

Thanks go out to J&J Enterprises, the Mid-Mo Cruisers Car Club and KZZT FM-105 of Moberly for the kid's Race Fan Club. Girl's and boy's bikes were donated in memory of Pamela Hassler by Archie and Carol Simpson, of Simpson Imports of Columbia. The boy's bike winner was Nicholas Eravi, a 10 year-old of Moberly and the girl's bike went to 9 year-old Kasey Hilderman from Laddonia. Delano Oil and Factory Motorsports had plenty of prize giveaways for the adults. A substantial 50/50 prize of $204 was won by Camille Akers of Bowling Green, making her one happy racefan. Thanks to Rhonda Acton and Tammy Evans for taking on and organizing of the 24 Raceway Jr. Race Fan Club and its associated drawings.
