B-MOD SHOOTOUT WON BY MOBERLY'S BRIAN ROBINSON AT 24 RACEWAY
MOBERLY, MO (Sept 27) - The final cirlce track race of the 2008 season at
Moberly's 24 Raceway was a good one, ending with the rescheduled 6th annual
Moberly Motors B-Modified Championship Shootout sponsored by MHC Kenworth
Trucks of Columbia.
This race was originally set for last Septembr 6, then again for the
following week, but rain kept any racing from happening on either of those
dates. Kenworth had a shiney new 2009 T 660 over-the-road tractor back once
again for display and several of their members & guests enjoyed a good
tailgate party bbq in the parking area prior to the night's events.
From the start of this 6th annual B-modified race, it was a battle for the
lead for the 20 lap first part of the custom format race, between Fulton's
Blake David and Chad Lebsock, with David taking the first part of the race,
and Hallsville's Lebsock running in front for the second ten laps. Another
battle was taking place for third between B-mod Season Champ Gary Wilson of
Holliday and local driver, Brian Robinson of Moberly, as the two traded off
third place a few times during these first 20 laps. Lebsock wound up in the
lead at the end of the 20, followed by David, Wilson and then Robinson in
4th. And then, after the 10 minute pit stop for the top ten to make
adjustments, there was a re-draw for the starting order. From that point on,
it was all Robinson for the second part of this race, the final ten lap
shootout, jumping into the lead from his second row "draw" position. Wilson
and Clinton Dale had the worst incident of the entire race as they tangled
in turn 3 on the first lap of this start, but both kept their cars going
forward. Robinson, who had his first win ever at 24 Raceway back in race # 4
on June 7 of this 2008 season, led all of the final ten laps to garner the
$1000 first place prize money. Robinson survived the post race technical
inspection of his racecar, but Lebsock, Wilson and David Kinder were found
to each have axles other than the required solid steel rear axles as
specified by the B-modified rules. Following Robinson and rounding out the
top five were Blake David, who drew a last row start for the final segment
but drove through the field to finish 2nd ahead of Charles VanBoening, Mark
Forrester and Clinton Dale.
Once again in the A-modifieds, is was all Iceman, David Holder, as he led
all the heat laps as well as all the feature laps and won again, making it
an even dozen wins at 24 Raceway for the season, winning the last 3 in a
row. Kelly Smith moved to a 2nd place finish after Steven Delonjay looked to
have taken over the runner-up spot in a race-long battle with Smith, but
spun out on the final turn of the final lap, giving way to Smith.
In the fendered-car classes, it was Sportsman driver Chad Walter getting his
2nd win of the season, with pole sitter Tim Eravi leading the most laps but
coming in 2nd. Hobby Stock winner Tim Dawson not only won, but did it in
convincing style by simply running off from the rest of the field with his
3rd win of the 2008 season. And 2008 Hornet Season Champ Rob Chase, could
not shake Robert Winfrey, but managed to stay in front of him for the entire
12-lap race to put on a show for the fans of this class as these two ran
away from the rest. Winfrey looked as if his bumper was attached to Chase
for most of this one and ran in 2nd the entire way.
UPCOMING EVENTS:
Oct 4 - Mud Drags, west side of the circle track grandstands @ Noon
At the end of this season, 24 Raceway held a total of 16 circle track races,
good for a year hindered by what seemed like continuous rainy weekends (nine
of 'em) and an adverse economy. A break in the action even took place as a
pit stop for two weeks in mid-August. Most folks realize the disposable
income that racing works off of simply seemed not as prevelent this season.
Staff and ownership of 24 Raceway send out a really big "Thank You !" to
those drivers, racecar owners and fans of the local racing community who
continue to support dirt track racing in Moberly and the north Missouri
area, by their presence and participation. Thanks go out to racing sponsors
such as PepsiAmericas and MHC Kenworth of Columbia, Best Western/Moberly Inn
and L & J Development of Moberly, and Miller Beer Distributing. And more
"Thanks" go out once more to all the sponsors for this past season who
provided prizes for the kid's Jr. Race Fan club giveaways. Dan Beebe of
Chillicothe won the 50/50 pot this past Saturday, worth a $57 night out!
PROMO: This coming Saturday, October 4th at 24 Raceway, there will be some
Mud Drag Racing presented by K & W of Moberly. It's a different race venue
