'20 Year Anniversary' for 24 Raceway
24 Raceway, LLC
Ron Lueck - 24 Raceway, Moberly, MO
MOBERLY, MO. (Jan 9) - Moberly's 24 Raceway is set to open 2009 with a bang,
its 20th YEAR In Existence, by having a United States Modified Touring
Series race on April 11th! Watch for a USMTS flyer from 24 Raceway within a
few weeks. The following weekend, April 18th, is set for another fast show,
this time with Late Models of the United Late Model Association's (ULMA)
Spring Challenge. And a 20-lap Hornet Special on April 25th fills out the
first month, so it's going to be a busy April. In addition, the last weekend
of March and first weekend of April are each set for two-day practice
sessions, Noon to Dusk. That's the initial set up on 2009's racing season
for Moberly.
'Events Scheduled for 2009' (and some still pending):
Race events & dates for 2009 are still being confirmed, particularly a
combined Midget Series race in early June, and studying the possibility of a
305 Sprint booking for one date or even one weekend a month this year. The
Big Summer Combo is booked again as the 'Firecracker Forty' for Friday the
3rd of July with A-Modifieds and the Late Models of the Midwest Latemodel
Racing Association (MLRA). The W.O.W. 360 Sprints are set for three dates on
May 23rd (Gary Scott Memorial), July 18th (Whitehead Memorial) & September
19th (Fall Classic). Another USMTS race is set for August 8th as the 4th
Annual Iowa-Missouri Challenge. The full schedule is almost ready to go.
'Mid-Winter Get Together'
The 2008 season winners of the five regular classes of A-Modifieds, Moberly
Motors B-Modifieds, Sportsman, Hobby Stock & Hornet classes can receive
their embroidered jackets at a function to be held on January 24th at Best
Western/Moberly Inn. Not a big thing: just a means of getting the
participating racers and fans together for socialization, completing
upcoming 2009 track registrations, and any pit area pad rental arrangements
to be made, and with the Class Winners' letterman style coats being given
out. We'll have a party room available for snacks and attendees are
encouraged to bring in whatever food items they wish to share in a pot-luck
venture, beginning at 6pm. The Best Western bar will be available at the
Inn, and for convenience, a Mexican restaurant, El Vaquero, is located
adjacent to the lobby. Arrangements for overnight stay can also be made at
the motel.
It was a tough year for the racing business at 24 Raceway, as it was for
race tracks across northern Missouri and most of Iowa. It was a one-two
punch from the weather, and then the sad economic situation in the latter
half of the year hit the entire country. An average of 80 race teams per
night were in attendance for the 2008 season, when previous years had that
average at 105 ±. Nine race nights were called because of weather, with two
more being cancelled in mid August for some necessary restructuring of the
business operation of running a racetrack. Since a banquet was not planned
by 24 Raceway for this January - another casulty of the ' 08 economy - this
is the option being setup as a party and for what it really is: simply a
'Mid-Winter Get-Together'. It will be from 6pm 'to whenever' on Saturday the
24th at the Motel Inn located at 1200 US Highway 24, just east of US Highway
63 in Moberly.
