DIFFERENT SET OF 6 TO WINNER'S CIRCLE AT 24 RACEWAY for June 27th:  K.BLACKBURN, LEBSOCK, T.ERAVI, T.CREED, R.CHASE & D.ERAVI
by: Ron Lueck - 24 Raceway, Moberly, MO

MOBERLY, MO (June 30) - In the A-modifieds, it was David Holder getting back in front to lead five of the 1st six laps for the first time since leaving the 71-car team just a few weeks ago.  But Kevin Blackburn, now driving that Alan McCormick-owned car, brought it to lead laps 7 thru 15 for his 2nd win in three tries at 24 Raceway.  Holder stayed in the top 3 for almost the entire race, falling to 4th on the final lap.  Matt Dotson got to 3rd on the 3rd lap, moved into 2nd for the final five laps, and finished there, just ahead of hard charging Gary Blackburn getting 3rd in the 15-lap event.

It was the night for the Hobby Stocks to get their extended lap race, with a 25-lap feature.  After an early caution, Tim Dawson looked as if to have this one in the bag by moving out to a comfortable lead over Tom Creed, until his spin in turn 2 took him out of contention and put him to the rear of the 12-car field.  Once the race restarted on lap 17, Creed took over and never looked back, winning his 4th feature out of the last 5 races.  Chase Breid moved up to 2nd for those final 9 laps as Darren Morgan brought his car into a 3rd place finish.  Dawson, winner of 2 features this season, came back to finish in 4th, just ahead of Aaron Prather.

Centralia's Chad Lebsock returned to competition at 24 Raceway after a month off, and in a big way by winning his heat race, starting from the front row, and then dominating the B-modified race by leading all the laps.  Billy Bentley had the best start of his racing career from the pole position, but dropped to a 5th place finish behind Gary Wilson (2nd), Galen Hassler (3rd) and Brian Robinson in 4th when the race was shortened by a couple of laps due to a brief rainfall.

Sportsman drivers had a caution-free 12 laps with Tim Eravi distancing himself at times, from 2nd place finisher Rick Girard, as these two ran an exciting nose-to-tail race for a while near the end.  Jerry Ames had a tangle on the white flag lap, and that was just what Andrew Page needed to move into a 3rd place finish ahead of Ames, with Charlie Rindom getting 5th.  After the features and with rain holding off, a Sportsman mechanics race had six entries and was won by DeWayne Eravi of Moberly in the #3 car, which had the win earlier when driven by brother Tim.  And earlier in the 4 cylinder Hornets, it was another strong showing by Rob Chase, getting his win no. 5 for the 2009 season.  Robert Winfrey took 2nd, as Brooke Hassler came in 3rd.

But for this week, there's an extra treat if you look under the catagory of intermission; shots of the activities presented by the Prather family & friends on the photos of the skits from Andy of Mayberry, Smokie & the Bandit and the Dukes of (Randolph) Hazzard County are there, along with shots of some of the 10 contestants in the Daisy Duke Look-a-like contest.  Speaking of which, Thanks to all ten of those gals for entering the contest, sponsored by Horny Toad of Lake of the Ozarks, Truman's, D.Rowe's and Pear Tree Restaurants.  Winner of the event, as judged from crowd cheering to look most like Daisy Duke, was Andie Wiesner of Moberly.  She then became the trophy presenter for the night's feature winners.  Andie received a 2-night stay at the Horny Toad, $500 cash and $50 gift certificate to Truman's Bar & Grill in Columbia, after being presented with a dozen roses from Tedford's Florist.  Runner-up was Stugeon's Leslie Wyatt as she netted $300 for her effort, along with gift certificates to Truman's and the Pear Tree in Bevier.  And 3rd went to another Moberly resident, Becky Bagby who got $200 and gift certificates from Truman's and D.Rowe's, both of Columbia.  Thanks again to all 27 members of the Prather Family and Friends for putting on the three skits, and Special Thanks go out to Clear 99 FM for their promos on the event by Kenny Schrader, with the night's Daisy event emceed by Scotty & Carissa in the Morning.  Clear 99 also has that once-a-week morning call-in show by some famous NASCAR racer who did a lot of his earlier racing at 24 Raceway as recently as 2005.  And that would be,,,,,, oh yeah, Carl Edwards from Columbia.  Other sponsors for the night besides Horny Toad were:  Calvert's Auto Body; David Haley Bail Bonds; Discount Auto Glass; RG Mongler Real Estate; Rick's Window Washing; Sears Hometown Stores; Subway; Tiger Towing; and Valentine Insurance Company.  Thanks to the three judges on that crowd noise decision:  Loretta, Tommy and Johnnie, and all of you who made this a great evening with an event that's a bit different from the other race weeks at 24 Raceway.

Now, each race night, kids, ages 0 to 7 and 8 to 12, can enter a coloring of the night's picture at the Junior Fan Club table for a chance to win prizes or souvenior booth gift certificates, or maybe even a bicycle donated by a race team.  Special thanks this week to the Burton racing family of Clark and Centralia:  Rachal, Kyle and Ray, again for their contribution of two bicycles as prizes for the Jr. Race Fan Club, won by Kaitlyn Rindom of Moberly and Jeffrey Baker of Harrisburg.  And a $1 ticket purchase in the 50/50 drawing netted David Majors of Moberly a cool $98.

After a holiday weekend off, the racing at 24 Raceway returns with the annual Firecracker Forty for A-modifieds and the MLRA LateModels.  Hobby Stock and Hornet classes will also be racing that night two weeks from now on Saturday July 11th.  "Dirt Track Racing at its Best" begins that night at the same time of 7pm, with a short driver's meeting at 6pm, followed by hot laps, starting at 6:15.  See the flyer for this Oscar White Memorial and the Firecracker Forty on our website of  www.24racewayinmoberly.com .  A big fireworks show, sponsored by J&M Displays out of Yarmouth, Iowa is in store for the end of the night.
