MOBERLY, MO (July 28) - In an unusual set of circumstances, all five classes last Saturday saw the feature winner at 24 Raceway simply hook up to the track and run away with the win. A perfect rain hit Moberly on Saturday morning before the sun came up and gave the track surface just the right amount of moisture to provide for great dry/slick conditions in the evening and absolutely no dust. Each of the front runners of David Holder, Galen Hassler, Rick Girard, Clayton Crump and Rob Chase must have found it to their liking because in each feature, the race was for 2nd on back in both the A- & B-mod, Sportsman, Hobby and Hornet classes. These five drivers led all of the laps in their respective feature races. David Holder took off for the lead from an outside front row start in his A-modified, as Kevin Blackburn and Colt Mather ran side by side behind him. This battle for 2nd went on for the first half of the 20-lap race, until Blackburn took charge and moved into 2nd for good. Mather then had to deal with a hard charging Matt Dotson until Dotson took over 3rd by lap 13. Mather then held off challenges from Kenny Mudd and Gary Blackburn to keep 4th, finishing just ahead of Mudd. Holder got his third win of the 2009 season at 24 Raceway and first since back on May 9 when he was driving the 71-car. In B-modifieds, Galen Hassler had something to prove after leading the race for 14 and 3/4th laps in the previous week and just getting nipped at the line. This time, he outran all of the other 19 B-mod racecars to get his win No.2 for the '09 season. Again, the race was for 2nd and on back as Hassler extended his lead on the restart after each of the 3 cautions, the last one coming on lap 10 and setting up for the 5-lap shootout. Gary Wilson seemed faster on the backstretch, but last week's winner, Chad Lebsock kept getting to the line in front of him on all of those five laps and finished with 2nd. Brian Robinson made a move into 3rd on the last lap and Mark Botts came with him to push Wilson back to a 5th place finish. With that win, Hassler moved into 1st in the season points race, by 2 points over Lebsock and by 4 over Wilson. Rick Girard has been the car to beat for the second consecutive week in the Sportsman class, as he once again won his heat race and led all laps on his way to his 3rd win of the season. Girard also is the points leader for the Sportsman class. Butch Bailey ran in 2nd for the first six laps ahead of Tim Eravi, but those two switched on lap 7 and that's where they finished with Eravi taking 2nd and Bailey coming in 3rd in this caution-free 12-lap race. Andrew Page worked his way into 4th by the final lap, as Derreck Agee made a final turn pass for taking 5th away from Kelly Smith. The Hobby Stock class also ran a caution-free race with Clayton Crump getting back to the winner's circle for his 2nd win of the season, after a few dnf 's for this year. Crump took over at the front and built up quite the lead, as Kevin Renzelmann, Chase Breid and Tom Creed ran in 2nd, 3rd and 4th for the entire 12-lap race. Creed still holds a narrow 2-point lead over Crump in the race for the season championship. Rob Chase won his heat race and also the 12-lap feature for the 2nd consecutive week in the 4 cylinder Hornet class. Rob's wife Kristi came in 2nd with a pretty good move after a restart from a late race caution to move up from 5th. With the next three finishers being DQ'd at the post-race inspection, Jeremy Milnes moved up to get 3rd in a borrowed Hornet, as Cody Melloway took 4th. Rob Chase now has 50-point lead over Brooke Hassler in season points for 2009. After the feature racing had ended, a mechanic's race for the B-modifieds was held with ten entries, the most for a mechanic's race yet at 24 Raceway. And the mechanic coming through to complete the six laps in the quickest time was Joey Roberts in the 23-car of Mark Botts.
