by Ron Lueck - 24 Raceway MOBERLY, MO (Sept. 22) - Vance Wilson got win #4 for the season at 24 Raceway this past Saturday and two straight, after returning for the 2nd half of the 2009 season races. For the second week in a row, Wilson led all laps in the feature after also winning the 2nd of the three heat races. That Donnie Charleton-owned racecar has been the one to beat for these last two weeks in some very strong showings. Porter Collins and David Holder were trading off for 2nd and 3rd for most of the first 12 laps until Matt Dotson started moving up in position by running 3-wide at times with Collins and Holder. With six laps to go Dotson got into 3rd and with four to go, he was solidly in 2nd, finishing there, a bit behind Wilson, but ahead of Collins. Holder came in 4th and Jon Melloway rounded out the top five. Wilson also was the recipiant of an extra $50 for the win, courtesy of that M&M crew from Slater, MO. In B-modified racing, Bobby Woodrow took the lead in the first laps, but Mark Botts, Gary Wilson and Chad Hickam were all up there challenging for the lead. At times, Hickam led by ever-so-little as Woodrow and Wilson ran side by side with him in some great three-wide racing. This race had plenty of caution flags thrown, with Woodrow seemingly able to take command on the restarts and get the lead back each time. In the end, it was a time-shortended race with Woodrow taking the checkers ahead of Wilson. Kiel Erwin got a good finish, coming up to get 3rd on the final two laps, followed by Botts in 4th, and season champ Chad Lebsock grabbing 5th. In the Sportsman class, the early battle was with Chad Walter and Rick Girard, with Walter leading the first 7 laps. And then Derrick Agee moved into the lead on lap 8, after steadily improving his position. Agee led the final 5 laps over Walter, as Jeff Creed also steadily improved his position and came in just behind Walter in 3rd. Girard had dropped back to 4th on lap 4 and finished there. Unlike his previous two wins in the last two weeks where Clayton Crump had led all the laps, he had more of a challenge from this week's heat winner Chase Breid. Breid led the initial lap, but Crump got that back on the next one. Then it was three-wide racing on the front stretch with Tom Creed trying to find a hole between the two. Creed shot through a space just too small and left the race with a tire going flat, even though he did get to lead lap 8. Crump regained the lead with Alan Hultz giving it all he could, running side by side but never ahead. Crump pulled out his win #3 for the last two weeks, this time over Hultz, 2nd and Jerry Warren getting 3rd. In Hornet racing, Rob Chase won his 4th consecutive 4 cylinder Hornet class race by leading all the laps, in both the heat race and feature. His wife Kristi Chase also won her heat race and in the feature, made the steady move up after starting in 5th at the beginning. Kristi came all the way up to find a 2nd place finish on the final lap by taking the low lane as she picked off Deven Still, running up in the high lane. Brooke Hassler got 4th as John Doctorian returned to racing to come in 5th.
