MOBERLY, MO (December 1) - From a consensus of the drivers and owners who participated this last season at 24 Raceway, there will be an annual winter Awards Ceremony, now set for January 16th of 2010 on a Saturday evening in Moberly. At this time, the location, time, costs, and dining options are being decided on from the suggestions we've received, as well as whether this will be a full blown banquet or a lighter menu. The upcoming 2010 track registrations can be completed at that time, and any pit area pad rental arrangements can also be made, and with the five Class Winners' trophies being given out later in the evening. Watch for further news on these details. Congrats to the 2009 Track Champions: A-mod owner Alan McCormick's 71-car with drivers David Holder of Clarence & Kevin Blackburn of Fulton; B-mod owner/driver Chad Lebsock in the 29L from Centralia; Sportsman owner/driver Rick Girard of Columbia in the 00-car; Hobby Stock owner/driver Tom Creed of Cairo; and owner/driver Rob Chase from Clark in the 4 cylinder Hornet class. Congratulations on the 2009 season! And a "Special Thanks" goes out to all those participating racers, the fans in attendance, those working for and helping out at 24 Raceway, and in particular, all the fine sponsors for the 2009 season!
'Saturday Night Events Scheduled for 2010' (and some still pending): Moberly's 24 Raceway is set to open in April 2010, just as it did in the '09 season, by lining up a United States Modified Touring Series race on the 10th, the second weekend of April! Watch for a USMTS flyer from 24 Raceway for that opening date. In addition to that season opening special, the last weekend of March and first weekend of April are once again, both set for two-day practice sessions, Noon to Dusk, with both track surface and weather permitting. Currently, there's at least one special in place on the local racing calendar for each of the months of April through August in 2010, with two set for May. The Southern Midget Racing Series is scheduled for a midget racing event on May 8th, Mother's Day weekend, and the end of May will see the W.O.W. 360 Sprints return on the 29th for the annual Gary Scott Memorial on the Saturday of the Memorial Day Weekend. The MLRA will bring the LateModels back once more, a bit earlier in the season this year, on June 12th. On July 3, it will be the annual Firecracker Forty for the A-modifieds competing in their 40-lap feature, this year being sponsored in part by Best Western / Moberly Inn. As an added event that July 3rd night, also being known as this year's Whitehead Memorial, the Sprints are to be back with the W.O.W. 360 Show for their 2nd scheduled race at 24 Raceway. A pre-race get-together will likely take place the preceding evening at Best Western. And August 21st is set for Moberly to be the first racing site in the "Hunt" for the National Championship as the USMTS returns to 24 Raceway to kick off this qualifying part of their season. Other race events & dates for 2010 are still being confirmed, but these races are the tentative ones set on the 2010 schedule at this time. Watch the web site of www.24racewayinmoberly.com , as well as other sites carrying the releases, for the January 16th awards details, the upcoming 2010 schedule and additional info, such as updated rules for the five weekly classes.
