ELSEN, WALTER, CRUMP, WINFREY ALL DOMINATE IN THEIR CLASSES
AT 24 RACEWAY
by Ron Lueck - 24 Raceway
MOBERLY, MO (May 31) - Perfect May weather plus the Sprints brought out just
over a thousand folks to 24 Raceway following another two week layout (the
second of the 2010 season) due to Spring rains.
RACE REPORT: The B-modifieds kicked off the evening's racing program with
18 cars and with Tom Elsen coming out strong from the start of the feature
race. Elsen won his heat, got the pole position and led all but one lap of
the 15. On lap 9, it was Chad Lebsock grabing a lead for that solitary
lap. Elsen had the car to beat and grabbed the lead back on lap 10 to take
it to the finish and in front of the other front row starter, Mark Botts.
Chad Hickam came in 3rd, Billy Bentley finished 4th, and Jacob Grotewiel
followed to round out the top 5.
Chad Walter put his Chevy Sportsman racecar into the lead, both before and
following the only caution of the 12-lap Sportsman race. Jeff Creed took
the low lane for the entire race, most of it in 2nd, as Walter ran up high
on the track. Creed got to the front for the white flag lap, but Walter led
the final lap and the important one. Derrick Agee came in 3rd in front of
Butch Bailey and then Cody Agee completed the top 5 in this Sportsman
competion.
Clayton Crump now has all four victories in the 2010 season for the Hobby
Stock class. Jerry Warren won the heat to garner the pole position, but
faded to the rear late in this caution-free race. Justin Bevill finished in
2nd, with new-comer, Jim Brown grabbing 3rd place.
In a race with plenty of early cautions, the Hornet class saw Robert Winfrey
and Devin Still run one-two for this one. John Baker finished ahead of Rob
Chase for 3rd & 4th, respectively, and John Doctorian moved up into 5th to
take that spot.
