MOBERLY, MO (September 6, 2010) - The decision has been made to close out the racing season at 24 Racway and end the points racing with last week's USMTS show. It's time to call it a year, and what a tough season it was. Show-up points were awarded to those that participated on that evening. The two races scheduled for September 11th and 25th will not be taking place. Season championships will be determined from the current points standings, once the August race show-up points are factored in and the Hornet Special complete results are listed on the sites. Most track operators know that September is always a tough draw for a crowd, once the school year begins. This plan to close out early was a consensus of the ownership and based on current economic factors from the 2010 season. Having only 10 races, with rain-outs or wet track conditions pre-empting the other 9 scheduled events is another factor that certainly figured into this move. Of the four nights scheduled as "off nights" in July and August, three of those were not able to have any racing surface ready for Saturday night racing anyway. A lack of a large weekly turnout of folks coming to watch when the track was open for racing, along with the declining number in participating race teams over these last three seasons, also are factors. Everyone concerned here, certainly understands about the disposable dollar (or lack thereof) dedicated to Saturday night Stock Car racing. The effort to stay open as a business while breaking even does not provide enough necessary revenue to pay the monthly expenses. So while this past season is now ending, plans are already underway for the 2011 race schedule, beginning with the April 9th Saturday. Watch for news towards a different plan for the classes and their sanctioning bodies after discussions on the set-up for 2011, due to take place this fall. The big hope here is that the current economic situation comes around to a more favorable picture next season. The track is still open to rent for practice sessions and a few race teams did show up on this Labor Day Monday to take advantage of just that. Call the track office at 660-269-9300 to make arrangements. A signed release is always necessary. Fuel and tire sales are available when someone is present or call the same number to make those arrangements. There are some 23 American Racer tires still on hand, along with a dozen or so of the Hoosier tires. "Thanks" to all fans who came to watch, all the race teams that came out to participate, and especially "thanks" to all of the sponsors throughout this 2010 season, for their signage, sponsorship, and door prize donations. The fans, drivers and sponsors all join in helping to keep Stock Car racing at Moberly the family-friendly sport that it is.
