Kinsley wins Stock Car feature despite flat tire;
By Dana Royer/34 Raceway

WEST BURLINGTON, IA. (June 24, 2006) - For the second straight week 34 Raceway officials and drivers were on fast mode trying to get in the nights racing action in before the rains came. With the threat of rain head its way, unlike last week, the races had to be stopped with five laps remaining in the IMCA modified feature because of the rain. The B-Mods and IMCA Stock Cars were able to complete their features with Chad Sovern of West Burlington getting the B-Mod win and Kirk Kinsley, Wapello, taking the checkered flag in the IMCA Stock Car main event. Bill Roberts, Jr., Burlington collected his first IMCA Modified win when the 20 lap feature was stopped at 15 because of the rain. Twenty eight hobby stocks (the largest field this season), and twenty three IMCA Late Models will return this Saturday, July 1 to complete their feature race along with the track¹s regular weekly program providing the fans with double features for the two classes.

New to 34 Raceway this year, the IMCA Stock Car class continues to grow. Starting with just twelve cars in its inaugural race on April 22, the class has grown with twenty cars competing this past Saturday. After a struggle to get the first lap in, current point leader, John Oliver, Jr. took the early lead holding on for the first six laps. On lap seven, Travis Finke took over to become the second leader of the race. But Finke¹s lead would be short lived when Kirk Kinsley, who had to pit with a flat tire on the first lap and then pit again when he suspected the tire was rubbing the fender, returned and went on to take the lead from Finke on lap eight. He then went on to take the checkered flag with Oliver holding off Jeff Mueller to finish second. After blowing an engine at Lee County Speedway Friday night, Kinsley and his crew worked all day Saturday to put in another engine in time for the races at 34.

Bill Roberts, Jr., Burlington won his first IMCA Modified feature this year in a rain shortened feature. Roberts took the lead from Sean Wyett on lap three of the scheduled twenty lap race. Moving up to challenge Roberts was Darin Thye. Thye and Roberts raced bumper to bumper and side by side in the final three laps before rains stopped the action. With fifteen of the twenty laps in the race was official giving Roberts the win. West Burlington¹s Chad Sovern raced to his first B-Modified feature win June 24. Sovern took the lead at the drop of the green and never looked back. Current point leader Jerry Bliesener, Jr., closed in on the leader but Sovern would prevail taking the checkered flag. Bliesener finished second followed by Scott Boles who took third.
