BURLINGTON, IA (May 19) ­ The Hawkeye and Preferred Auto presented the Mid America 305 Sprint Car Special on Saturday, May 19 at 34 Raceway along with points races for late models, modifieds, stock cars and hobby stocks. Once again the car count topped the 100 mark with 110 cars entered for the nights racing. Two drivers got back to back wins with Boone McLaughlin, Mediapolis, getting his second straight IMCA late model win and Jake Wenig, Burlington, winning his second straight hobby stock feature. Also getting wins were Darin Thye, Burlington (IMCA Stock Cars), Kevin Cale, Donnellson (IMCA
Modifieds) and Bobby Hawks, Jacksonville, Il winning the 305 sprint feature.

Coming Up Coming up this Saturday, May 26 will be Burlington Pepsi Night at the races. All 2007 high school seniors and college graduates will get special $4 grandstand admission with valid school ID. There will be NASCAR ticket giveaways and a driver autograph session in the grandstands from 5:30 ­6:15. FREE checkered flags will be given to the first 500 fans and there will be points racing for all five classes.

The IMCA Stock Cars took to the track for the first feature of the night with 26 cars making the field. Chris Webb took the early lead from his second row start following a caution on the first lap. It was a tight race throughout for the top five spots between, Webb, John Oliver, Jr. Todd Holsteen, Darin Thye and Chris Wibbell. Webb continued to hold his lead for the first eleven laps of the fifteen lap race. On lap twelve, Darin Thye, working the high side, took over as the second leader of the race. Thye could not seem to pull away as Holsteen would stay close. A caution on the last lap would make for a green white checkered finish and a race to the checkered flag. Thye would hold off Holsteen for the win while Wibbell would get past Webb for third.

The first of five scheduled Mid America 305 Sprint Car specials saw fifteen cars entered. Getting the win would be Jacksonville, Illinoisı Bobby Hawks, driving for Randy Plath. Hawks took the lead on lap 2 and never look back taking the checkered flag by several car lengths. Des Moinesı, Matt Stephenson would finish second and Mitchell Alexander of Knoxville would take third. Nineteen year old Tiffany Wyzard of Williamsville, Il. took over the driving duties for Dale Oaks in the #41, finishing 6th. Tiffany has been racing sprints for three years.

Boone McLaughlin, Mediapolis, won his second straight IMCA Late Model feature in two weeks. McLaughlin took the lead from Matt Strassheim on lap fifteen following a caution. As McLaughlin began to pull away, the battle for second would go on between Strassheim, Lonnie Bailey and Sam Halstead. As McLaughlin took the checkered flag it was a race for second with Strassheim edging out Bailey by 1/2 car length for the 2nd spot.

The hobby stocks took to the track next for their fifteen lap feature race with twenty three cars ready to go. Coming off a win last week, Burlingtonıs Jake Wenig would take the lead from Ray Raker on lap six. Then the battle was on between Wenig and Dean Kratzer. Kratzer would take the lead briefly on laps eight and nine but Wenig would get the lead back for good on lap ten. With six caution flags thrown throughout the race, the final on lap thirteen, the race would be called on a time limit with Wenig getting the win. Kratzer would go home with a second place finish and Cale Samberg would take third.

Twenty four modifieds would finish off the nightıs racing action with their 20 lap feature. Donnellsonıs Kevin Cale would take the lead on lap three following a caution and went on to take the checkered flag by several car lengths. Darin Thye moved up from his fifth row start to take second holding off Dean McGee, Sr.
