Ditsworth uses lap traffic to get 305 sprint win, Goble given late model win by DQ
By Dana Royer

BURLINGTON, IA  (June 7) - There were three new winners at 34 Raceway last Saturday in the sixth point races of the year and over 100 cars competing in the five classes.. Collecting their first wins this year at the local track were Jayson Ditsworth (305 sprints), Gladstone, Illinois, Darin Thye (stock cars), Burlington and Tom Goble, (late models), Burlington. Getting repeat wins were Brad Carson (modifieds), Colchester, Illinois and Matt Gavin (hobby stocks), Kirkwood, Illinois.

The IMCA Miller Lite Modifieds took to the track for the first feature of the evening with twenty four cars taking the green flag. Dave Anderson, Burlington, took the early lead following two restarts with Brad Carson not far behind. Carson chased Anderson for the first seven laps of the twenty lap race. Carson shot under Anderson on the back stretch for the second lead of the race on lap eight. Midway through the race, Dean McGee and Bill Roberts, Jr., would join Carson as they pulled away from the field. With two laps to go, McGee closed in on the leader and would pull up to Carsonšs bumper on the back stretch. But the double zero of Carson would pull away coming out of turn 4 and take the checkered flag for the second time this year. McGee finished second followed by Bill Roberts, Jr., Darin Thye and Anderson.

Burlingtonšs Tom Goble went home with a first place finish following the J & J Steel Ideal Ready Mix IMCA Late Model flag to flag feature. Matt Bailey took the lead from Morning Sunšs Colby Springsteen on lap twelve of the twenty five lap feature and never looked back taking the checkered flag in the fifteen car field. It was the second time Bailey had taken the checkered flag since his rookie year four years ago, but the Quincy, Illinois driver would go home empty handed following post race inspection. Bailey was found with an illegal Tachometer violating IMCA rules. With Bailey disqualified, the win then went to Tom Goble who finished a strong second. The battle for third was won by Colby Springsteen followed by Mat Ryan and two-time winner Jason Frankel.

Twenty hobby stocks took to the track in the third feature of the evening with Matt Gavin of Kirkwood, Illinois getting his third win this year. With a four sale sign on the driver side, Gavin took the lead from Chad Witte on lap eight of the fifteen lap race and took the checkered flag by a large margin. Doug Fenton finished second followed by Witte, Randy Samberg and Luke McLaughlin rounding out the top five.

Jayson Ditsworth took advantage of lap traffic to win his first Sebastian Sandblasting 305 Sprint feature this year. Fifteen cars started the feature with Bobby Mincer and Scott Boles on the front row. Mincer quickly took the early lead in the twenty lap race that saw three cautions. With Mincer in the lead, Ditsworth took advantage when Mincer got behind the lap car of Alexsha Alexander. With Mincer held up, Ditsworth took to the high side and took the lead. Mincer tried to shoot down past Ditsworth on lap sixteen but couldnšt complete the move as Jayson went on to get his first win this year.
Finishing out the top five would be Donnie Steward, Brian Hetrick and Justin Parrish.

The Mikešs Auto Parts IMCA Stock Cars capped off the nights racing action with Burlingtonšs Darin Thye getting the win. Thye took the lead from Greg Johnson on lap six of the fifteen lap, twenty car race. Rod Staats moved in to the number two spot on lap ten and set his sights on Thye. Thye would hold off Staats in a green, white, checkered finish following the only caution of the race on lap fourteen for his first IMCA Stock Car win this year. Staats would finish second followed by Johnson, Brett Timmerman and Jason Cook finishing out the top five.
