Frankel, Cook get back to back wins
By Dana Royer/34 Raceway

BURLINGTON, IA (Aug. 9, 2008) Jason Frankel, Quincy, Illinois and Jason Cook, Mt. Pleasant, got back to back wins on Two Rivers Bank and J & J Steel Night at 34 Raceway Saturday, August 9. Four classes competed in point race action with the 305 sprints having the night off. Both Frankel and Cook took the checkered flag in the late model and stock car features
(respectively) for the second straight week with Scott Hogan, Vinton and Alex Buffington, Wapello each getting their third wins of the year in the modified and hobby stock divisions.

Coming up this Saturday, August 16 is the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders ³Night of the Twins². The Sprint Invaders 360s will run twin features. The first twin will be set by the regular lineup. The second twin will be set by reversing the finish order of the first feature. A $500 bonus will be awarded to the driver with the most points through both twins. A $1000 bonus will go to the driver who wins both twins. Also competing for points will be the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Hobby Stocks.

The J & J Steel Ideal Ready Mix IMCA Late Models took to the track for the first feature of the night with Jay Chenoweth and Gary Russell on the front row. Russell took the early lead and led the field for the first six laps before Cory Richards took over for lead number two. Richards held on for one lap before Matt Strassheim got lead number three. Strassheim led the field for four laps before current point leader, Jason Frankel went to the outside in turn two for the fourth lead of the race. Frankel went on to take the checkered flag for the sixth time this season. Strassheim finished second and Mark Burgtorf moved up to take third in the 25 lap race.

Twenty one cars set the field for the Pepsi Hobby Stocks with Brandon Peitz taking the early lead. Peitz held on for the first three laps before Randy Wachter slipped past in turns three and four. Wachter held tight through seven laps with Alex Buffington close behind. The eighth caution came out on lap nine and with the time limit up their would be a green, white, checkered finish. Wachter and Buffington raced side by side on the final lap with Buffington edging out Wachter at the wire for his third win this year.

Jason Gerdes finished third and Brandon Peitz took fourth to round out the top four.

It was racing at its best for the Mike¹s Auto Parts IMCA Stock Car with side by side bumper to bumper action. Twenty two cars took to the track for a 20 lap race with Derek Goble and Jason Cook exchanging leads the first five laps. Cook then lead the field for the next twelve laps before the third of three yellow flags came out on lap twenty, setting up a green, white checkered finish. Cook would have to hold off John Oliver, Jr. , Jeff Mueller and Todd Holsteen at the end and did just that taking the checkered flag by a car length over Oliver.

The final feature of the evening was the Miller Lite IMCA Modifieds with twenty four cars competing in the twenty lap race. Brandon Rothzen took the lead from Brandon Savage on lap four. Rothzen and Scott Hogan would put on a battle midway through the race before Rothzen would begin to pull away.
Disaster would then strike Rothzen as he continues to try for that first win after he got a flat tire. Hogan would then take over the the lead with a light rain falling. After a caution on the final lap delayed the ending the rain fell harder and officials decided to call it a race with Hogan taking the win.
