34’s $10,000 to win Pepsi USA Nationals wraps up Deery Brothers Summer Series WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (Sept. 9) – The top prize is $10,000, when 34 Raceway hosts the Pepsi USA Nationals Deery Brothers Summer Series finale Friday and Saturday, Sept. 12-13. The 17th event in the 2008 tour for IMCA J & J Steel Late Models gets under way on Friday with time trials and qualifying races. Also on the opening night card is the $750 to win J & J Steel Ironman Challenge, open to all drivers with perfect attendance through the series’ first 16 races. Qualifying for the 26-car field will be completed Saturday, with the 100-lap main event bringing the special to a close. Pit gates open at 4:30 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. both days. Hot laps are at 6:15 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m. Grandstand admission on Friday is $15 for adults and $13 for seniors and students. Ad mis sion on Saturday is $18 for adults and $16 for seniors and students. Kids 10 and under get in free both days. Pit passes are $25. Also competing on Friday will be the four cylinders. IMCA Modifieds and non-sanc tioned hobby stocks run on Saturday. Mark Burgtorf of Quincy, Ill., is the two-time defending Pepsi winner and the only driver to have won the race three times. Boone McLaughlin of Mediapolis leads the Deery Series point race. Joining McLaughlin in the Ironman field will be Darrel DeFrance of Marshalltown, Tom Dar byshire of Morning Sun, Todd Cooney of Des Moines, Terry Neal of Ely, Andy Nezworski of Buffalo, Justin Reed of Quincy, Ill., Charlie McKenna of Clear Lake, Matt Strassheim of West Burlington, Mike Garland of DeWitt, T.J. Criss of Oskaloosa, Joe Zrostlik of Long Grove, Stephan Kammerer of Blue Grass, Bryan Klein of Cedar Rapids, Ben Nading of Ankeny, Bobby Hansen of Center Point and Mitch Current of Maquoketa. DeFrance has competed at all 331 events in series history, dating back to 1987. |
