34 Raceway to start 2009 Racing Season with 3 Big Events

BURLINGTON, IA (March 31) - On Saturday, April 4 34 Raceway will kick off
the 2009 racing season with three big events to get that racing blood
flowing beginning this Saturdayıs first annual Frost Buster. Hitting the
track for the first time this season will be the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock
Cars, 305 Sprints, Hobby Stocks and the 4 Cylinders. Pit gates will open
4:30, grandstand gates open at 5 and racing begins at 7:00.
Slocum 50 IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series
Then come back the next week Saturday, April 11, for the 1st Annual ³SLOCUM
50² IMCA Deery Brothers Late Model Series at 34 Raceway honoring the late
two-time IMCA Late Model Track Champion, Brent Slocum & his ³High Five²
Racing Team. ³Itıs been a long time coming², said Brad Stevens, one of
Slocumıs best friends. ³We want to keep his memory alive and give back to
his fellow late model competitors.²
Slocum, who tragically died at 34 Raceway, June 11, 2005 in an accident in
the pits, was a well known late model driver to the Deery Brothers Series.
High Five Racing has worked hard contacting business owners, along with many
friends and family, collecting funds to pay-out an additional $6000, above
and beyond the current Deery Brothers purse pay-out. ³By adding the
additional $6000 to the purse, this will allow Brent Slocumıs home-track, 34
Raceway to host the two highest paying Deery Brothers Summer Series races²
says Brad Stevens of High Five Racing.
There are two Deery Brothers racing events scheduled at 34 Raceway, one now
being named the 1st Annual ³SLOCUM 50² IMCA Deery Brothers Late Model Summer
Series and the other at the end of the season, ³THE PEPSI USA IMCA LATE
MODEL NATIONALS².
Along with the additional $6000 added to the already $10,450 purse, for each
grandstand admission ticket sold for the event, 34 Raceway will take $1 of
each tickets proceeds and start a ³SLOCUM 50 Scholarship Fund² to be awarded
to area high school students. Also competing will by IMCA Modifieds
and Louisa Communication/I Wireless 4 cylinders. Gates open at 5 wil races
beginning at 7.
Sebastian Sandblasting Sprint Nationals
Then to cap off the pre season specials before the start of the point
raceaction will be the wheel to wheel action of the Sebastian Sandblasting
Sprint Nationals on April 17 and 18. The two day show will feature both
360and 305 sprint racing action with qualifying and features both nights
with time trials also on Friday.
Also on Friday night 34 Raceway will remember Brian Hetrick with the 1st
annual Brian Hetrick Memorial. After approaching 34 Raceway owners Jeff and
Amy Laue, family, friends, sponsors and crew of Brian have contributed the
funds to pay the entire $3500 pay-out for Friday nights 305 feature. Brian
truly loved racing at 34 Raceway and was so looking forward to that
championship race the week following his death last year. Fridays 360feature

The top four positions in both features are automatically qualified
forSaturdayıs feature event. The Hobby Stocks will also take to the track
Friday night.
Then come back on Saturday to see even more action with the 360 and
305Sprints including more qualifying and features as well as IMCA Stock Cars
and Mod Lights.
The winner of the 360 feature on Saturday will receive a $2500 check with
the winner of the 305 feature collecting $1250 for the win.
Hot laps start at 6:00 Friday followed by time trials at 6:30 and racing
at7:00. Saturdays action begins with hot laps at 6:30 and racing to begin at
7:00.
