BURLINGTON, IA (May 9) – After the IRA 410 Sprints and Sebastian
Sandblasting 305 Sprints put on a show for area fans Friday Night, May 8 it
was back to the track again Saturday night with point races for the Miller
Lite IMCA Modifieds, Mike’s Auto Parts IMCA Stock Cars, Pepsi Hobby Stocks
and the second point race for the I-Wireless/ Louisa Communications 4
Cylinders. Winners on Saturday were Jeff Waterman, Quincy, Il. (modifieds),
Jason Cook, Mt. Pleasant (stock cars), Ray Raker, Danville (hobby stocks)
and Wayne Noble, Wapello (4 cylinders).
Coming up this week, Sat., May 16 will be point races for the J & J
Steel/Ideal Ready Mix IMCA Late Models, the Sebastian Sandblasting
305 Sprints, the Miller Lite IMCA Modifieds, Mike’s Auto Parts IMCA Stock
Cars and the Pepsi Hobby Stocks on Pepsi Night at the races.
The Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 23 when the World of Outlaw Late
Models make their stop at 34 Raceway with some ground shaking action.
The Mike’s Auto Parts IMCA Stock Cars took to the track for the first
feature of the evening with Travis Finke taking the early lead from his
front row start, With Finke out in front, not far behind was Brett Timmerman
challenging him. Midway through the twenty lap race, John Oliver, Jr., who
had moved into third, hit Timmerman causing Timmerman to spin bringing out
the first of three cautions in the race. Bo Hunter would take over second
with Jeff Mueller and Cook not far behind. Cook would take over the lead
with five laps to go and went on to win his second feature this year at 34.
Finke would finish second followed by Greg Johnson, Abe Hulls and Bo Hunter.
The Miller Lite IMCA Modifieds would take to the track next with Quincy’s
Jeff Waterman getting his first ever A Modified feature win.
Twenty-nine modifieds competed in three heats and a B-Main for the twenty
spots to start the feature race. Brandon Rothzen took the early lead in the
twenty lap race pulling away to a nearly five second lead. When the second
of three cautions came out, Rothzen would suddenly pull into the pits giving
Waterman the lead. Waterman led the field for the next six laps with Bill
Roberts, Jr. running a close second. On lap thirteen Roberts also pulled
into the pits putting Michael Long in the number two spot. Long has been
running strong this year winning features at several area tracks including
34 Raceway and his sights were set on Waterman. Could Waterman hold off off
Long and stop his winning streak? He could, as Waterman took the checkered
flag by a car’s length for his first win.
A quick trip to the auto parts store would help Danville’s Ray Raker get his
second career hobby stock feature win at 34 Raceway Saturday night. Raker
would miss the hot laps but had a new fuel pump put in in time for the heat
races. Raker sat on the front row along side Derek Goble in the twenty four
car field and took the early lead. On lap thirteen of the fifteen lap race
is was bumper to bumper for the top three between Raker, Rob Wilsey and Dan
Wenig. That quick trip to the part store was worth it for Raker as took the
checkered flag for the win edging out Wilsey.
The second point race for the I-Wireless/Louisa Communications 4 cylinders
saw Wayne Noble take the checkered flag. Noble took the lead from Chuck
Fullenkamp on lap three of the twelve lap race.
Noble began to run into lap traffic by lap nine but would still get the win
by a large margin over Dakota Fenton who was running second.

night. The 2009 inductees included Don Gugeler, Rich Jackson, Robert
