34 Raceway recognizes drivers, announces two huge events for 2010
Dana Royer/34 Raceway

BURLINGTON, IA (November 23) -  In a change from previous years’ January banquet, 34 Raceway held its 2009 season awards banquet at the Comfort Inn Suites in Burlington on Saturday, Nov. 21.  And the move appeared to be positive with nearly 350 tickets purchased for the event.

The program included a meal, special recognition of sponsors, employees and drivers who finished in the top ten in points in all five classes and top 6 in the 4 cylinder division. In order to receive recognition and points money drivers had to participate in a minimum of 75% of 34 Raceway’s point events in the 2009 season. With six divisions, a total of 57 drivers were eligible. 34 owners were please with 52 of those drivers attending.

In 2009  almost a half of a million dollars went to racers during the six short months of racing thanks to the support of sponsors, drivers, crews and fans.

Special recognition went to two drivers who made the long trek to 34 Raceway each Saturday night. Those drivers included Scott Hogan, modified driver, who traveled 130 miles each way from Vinton, Iowa to compete at 34 Raceway and claiming the Miller Lite IMCA Modified Track Championship.  Scott  is a multi-winner of The Hogan Memorial Race, a winner of the well known Race of Champions at the Super Nationals and a multi-track champion. He has a total of 10 track championships, the first in 1995.  The other driver comes each Saturday from Boling Brook, Il. to race in the Sebastian Sandblasting 305 Sprint division.

Destiny Clark, travels 4 hours one way each week to 34. Eight hours of travel time per day is spent, just so she can enjoy the hobby of racing and finished in the top ten this past season.

Also recognized was Lane Kauffman, Wapello, who was the point winner in the 34 Raceway and CJ Speedway Duel On Dirt. Although he’s attended many racing events, this is his first year as an owner/driver in the Hobby Stock division. He races weekly, with nearly 100% attendance, at CJ and 34. Wapello’s Brian Holmes (not present) was also recognized for winning the IMCA Stock Car Duel on Dirt point championship.

Track owner, Amy Laue, spoke briefly and introduced  the 2009 Track Champions who included Lonnie Bailey, Quincy, Il., (J & J Steel IMCA late models), Jayson Ditsworth, Gladstone, Il., (Sebastian Sandblasting 305 sprints), Scott Hogan, Vinton, Ia (Miller Lite IMCA Modifieds), Abe Huls, Carthage, Il (Mike’s Auto Parts IMCA Stock Cars), Derek St. Clair, Donnellson, IA (Pepsi Hobby Stocks) and Travis Demint, (Louisa Communications/I Wireless 4 cylinders)

Coming Up in 2010

Along with its weekly Saturday night racing program 34 Raceway will be hosting special traveling series events. The season will kick off with the  2nd annual Slocum 50 Deery Brothers IMCA Late Model Series paying out an even bigger and better purse structure than last season with $3000 to win and $500 to start. The second special of the season will be Sprint Invaders 360 series ULTIMATE CHALLENGE event paying out top dollars with and exciting new series challenge. 34 Raceway will host a total of 3 Sprint Invaders  events with the series championship finale, in conjunction with Terry & Jenni Hoenig, concluding at Lee County Speedway.

Recently announced, 34 Raceway will host the first ever Lucas Oil Late Model series event on Friday, May 21, bringing you drivers such as

2009 series champion, Scott Bloomquist, Earl Pearson, Bart Hartman to name a few.

The final event announcement was the first ever appearance of the USAC 410 non-wing Sprints and Midgets as they invade 34 Raceway on Saturday,  June 26.  The series has seen the likes of NASCAR driver alumni such as Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Ryan Newman and Kasey Kahne

among others. Stewart and Kahne both fielded cars in the 2009 series.

The schedule for 2010 has not been completed yet but the Laue’s expect other special events to be added.

With track owners, Jeff and Amy Laue, Scott and Lorrie Parish and Tom and Sue Bowling getting their third season under their wings, 2010 looks to be even bigger and better.

The banquet program concluded with point money and awards presented to the top ten in each class.
