BURLINGTON, IA (July 2,
2011) - Racing at 34 Raceway continues to provide plenty of action with the
point races heating up. Four of the five classes in action saw drivers
getting their first wins of the season. Taking the checkered flag for the
first time this year were Dusty Kraklio, Durant (modifieds), Kevin Hetrick,
Gladstone, Il. (305 sprints), John Oliver, Jr, Danville (stock cars) and
Dane Fenton, Burlington (hobby stocks). The lone repeat win went to Morning
Suns Tom Darbyshire who won the 25 lap late model main event. The first feature race of
the night saw Durants Dusty Kraklio getting his first modified win of the
season. Kraklio took the lead from Chris Horn on lap eighteen of the twenty
lap, twenty-one car Miller Lite IMCA Modified feature. Horn led the first
seventeen laps before Kraklio was able to pass him for the lead in turns 3
and 4 and go on to take the checkered flag. Scott Hogan would move up from
mid field to finish second as Horn settled for third. Hogan leads the point
race with 214 followed closely by Brandon Rothzen with 210. The always exciting and
competitive Mikes Auto Parts IMCA Stock Cars hit the track for their 20 lap
feature with John Brockway and Shane Watts on the front row. Watts took the
early lead with a tight battle going on behind him. On lap five, Watts would
get a little too high in turn four and John Oliver, Jr. would become the
second leader of the race on lap five. Oliver would continue to lead the
field the next twenty laps as a battle for position behind him would provide
some exciting racing for the fans. Not far behind Oliver would be Ryan Cook,
Chris Webb, Shane Watts and Kirk Kinsley with some bumper to bumper, side by
side racing. On the final lap of the race, Cook would close in to Olivers
bumper but wouldnt be able take the lead as Oliver went on to take the
checkered flag for the win. Cook now holds a six point lead of Oliver going
into this coming weeks action. The W.T. Gabeline and Sons
Trucking 305 Sprints provided some thrills and spills with Kevin Hetrick
getting the win in the 20 lap feature. Hetrick took the early lead from his
front row start and would be chased by Ryan Jamison driving for Kevins dad,
Jim in the #21j. Hetrick held a comfortable lead through the race and would
take the checkered flag with room to spare. Sixteen sprints entered the
evenings competition but heat race action saw Tony Davis flipping several
times on the back stretch and Jayson Ditsworth taking a tumble on the front
stretch eliminating them from the main event. Ditsworth would keep his point
lead with 262 points followed by Justin Parrish with 251. Morning Suns Tom
Darbyshire would pick up his second J & J Steel/Ideal Ready Mix IMCA Late
Model feature win for the second time this year. Darbyshire got the lead on
lap fourteen of the twenty-five lap feature when leader, Tom Goble got too
close to a boundry tire moving it onto the track and bringing out the yellow
flag. Because Goble caused the yellow, track rules would send him to the
rear of the field. When racing resumed, Darbyshire would be in the lead with
Matt Bailey following. By the end of the race, Darbyshire had increased his
lead and would take the checkered flag followed by Bailey and Joey Gower. In
point race action Dennis Woodwarth holds a 10 point lead of Lonnie Bailey
216 to 206. Matt Strassheim follows in third with 205. The final race of the
night saw some early Fourth of July fireworks and Dane Fenton getting his
first hobby stock win. Dan Wenig would take the early lead in the fifteen
lap feature battling Travis Plummer as the two put on a show for the lead.
But on lap five, Wenig would get into the backstretch wall on flipping his
# C21. Further down the track, Plummer would get caught up in the aftermath
also ending up on the wall bringing out the red flag. Both drivers were OK
and when racing resume it was Ray Raker in the lead. Raker led the field
for the next four laps working to hold off Dane Fenton. The second red flag
of the night came out on lap seven with Dean Kratzer, Rob Wilsey and Jake
Wenig were all involved in a crash on the front stretch bringing out the
yellow. Thats when the fireworks began with a little altercation having to
be broken up by track officials. Wenig would be able to continue the race
when it resume and would follow Fenton, who was in the lead across the
finish line for second. An excited Fenton climbed on his car, did a little
dance and a back flip to give the fans some more fun for the night. The
hobby stock point battle is a tight one with Kratzer holding just a one
point lead over Jake Wenig 161 to 160. Coming Up at 34 Raceway Come join the fun and excitement this Saturday, July 9 when Weikert Iron & Metal presents.
