Davenport Speedway releases final point standings
Track looks forward to post season action
DAVENPORT, Ia. (September 4, 2017) – The 2017 point season at the Davenport Speedway is now in the record books, and what a season it was. None of the four weekly class titles were decided before Season Championship night.
Matt Ryan of Davenport claimed his second Davenport Speedway track championship in the Petersen Plumbing and Heating IMCA Late Model class. Ryan’s previous title came in 2015. Matt had six feature wins on the season. Chuck Hanna of Port Byron, finished second in points with Rob Toland of Colona third.
In Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Modifieds, Bryce Garnhart of Shannon, Illinois won the track championship. The title is Garnhart’s first modified championship. He also has two sportmod titles (2013 & 2014). Mitch Morris of McCausland, finished second. Rob Toland of Colona took third in points.
The Koehler Electric Street Stock title was won by Jeff Struck Jr. of Davenport. Struck’s track championship came in his first full season of racing. Cary Brown from Davenport, finished second in points and Jesse Owen of Colona was third.
Tony Olson of Cedar Rapids completed the three-peat with his third straight Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod championship. Olson led all drivers at the Davenport Speedway with eight feature wins this season. Jake Morris of McCausland, finished second in points. Third in points was Rance Powell of Davenport.
The next event at the Davenport Speedway will be the Night of Destruction on Friday September 8th. The event consists of Cheater Races and the motorized mayhem known as The Trailer Race. Cheater Races will be held in the modified, street stock and sportmod classes.
September 22nd brings the Iowa Governor’s Cup, the official stock car championship of the State of Iowa, to the Davenport Speedway. This year’s Governor’s Cup features a one-night format. IMCA Modifieds will race for a $5,000-to-win first place prize. SportMods will pay $2,000-to-win, and Street Stocks $1,000-to-win. Also racing will be the American Iron Racing Series.
