Championship stretch drive time at Davenport Speedway

 

 

DAVENPORT, Ia. (August 5, 2018) – Racing will return to the Davenport Speedway this Friday, following the Mississippi Valley Fair. Three great nights of exciting stock car action will determine the 2018 track champions.

 

With points at a premium, racers will be looking to cash in with a track championship. After eleven nights of racing, three class titles are still up for grabs.  In two divisions, the points lead is only a single point.

 

In the Petersen Plumbing and Heating IMCA Late Model class, defending track champion Matt Ryan of Davenport, leads the point standings by sixteen over Chuck Hanna of Port Byron. Ryan has two feature wins this season, but Hanna has been on a roll, winning four of the last six feature races. Andy Nezworski is third in points twenty-four back.

 

The Eriksen’s IMCA Modified battle is the closest at Davenport Speedway. Defending track champion Bryce Garnhart of Shannon, Illinois leads New Liberty’s Chris Zogg by one point. Bruce Hanford is ten points back. In all, six drivers are within 36 points of the lead with three races remaining.

 

The Koehler Electric Street Stock point lead is also a one point separation. Jesse Owen of Colona, leads Jeff Struck Jr. of Davenport.  Struck trails despite his six feature wins, which leads all racers at the Davenport Speedway. Gene Ehlers of Oxford Junction, Iowa is third in points, twenty-eight points back.

 

In the Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod standings, Brandon Setser of Davenport has a comfortable lead of sixty-five points over Randy Lamar of Buffalo. Setser needs only an average finish of twentieth in the last three races to clinch the title. Second through fifth in the SportMod class are separated by only 21 points.

 

The racing program on Friday, August 10th, is highlighted by point racing action in all four weekly classes. As a special attraction, Powder Puff races will also be held.

 

Friday, August 17th, is Kid’s Back to School Night. All four weekly classes will be in action. Children 12 and under get in free with a paid adult. Guest class for the evening will be the American Iron Racing Series.

 

The battle for the 2018 track titles concludes on Friday, August 24th, with Season Championship night. All four classes will be in action. Mechanic races are the added attraction.

 

The Davenport Speedway is located at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, on West Locust Street in Davenport, Iowa. Pit gates open at 4:30pm, the grandstand at 5:00pm, with hotlaps at 6:15 and racing to follow.
