Davenport Speedway cancels racing program – Season Championship next Friday

DAVENPORT, Ia. (August 17, 2018) – Persistent rains this afternoon has forced the Davenport Speedway to cancel tonight’s racing program. Weather permitting, racing will return next Friday, August 24th, with Season Championship night. All four classes will be in action. Guest class for the evening will be the American Iron Racing Series. As a special attraction, Powder Puff races will also be held, however there will be no mechanic races.

 

Kid’s Back to School Night promotions will be in effect next Friday. Children 12 and under get in free with a paid adult. Bike races for the kids will be held after the racing program has concluded.

 

With only one race to go, one track championship has already been determined.

 

Brandon Setser of Davenport, has clinched the Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod title. Randy Lamar of Buffalo, leads a tight battle for the runner-up spot. Second through fifth in the SportMod class are separated by only 21 points.

 

In the Petersen Plumbing and Heating IMCA Late Model class, defending track champion Matt Ryan of Davenport, leads the point standings by sixteen over Chuck Hanna of Port Byron. Ryan  also leads the IMCA Late Model national point standings. Davenport regulars Andy Nezworski, Rob Toland, and Chuck Hanna are all in the national point standings top ten.

 

The Koehler Electric Street Stock point lead is a one point separation. Jesse Owen of Colona, leads Jeff Struck Jr. of Davenport.

 

The Eriksen’s IMCA Modified battle is the closest at Davenport Speedway. Defending track champion Bryce Garnhart of Shannon, Illinois leads New Liberty’s Chris Zogg by one point. In all, four drivers are within 23 points of the lead.
