Three? Three. Three championships in one at Iowa Governor’s Cup!
DAVENPORT, Ia. (September 20, 2018) – There will be a lot on the line when the IMCA Late Models take to the track Friday at the Davenport Speedway. Three different titles will be up for grabs at the Iowa Governor’s Cup.
First, the winner of the Iowa Governor’s Cup is automatically the official the Late Model stock car champion, of the State of Iowa. Second, this is the season finale for the Deery Brothers Summer Series in 2018. Third, the Iowa Governor’s Cup is the final points paying race towards the IMCA Late Model National Championship.
Justin Kay of Wheatland, Iowa currently leads the Deery Brothers Summer Series point standings. Justin has 389 points to Ryan Dolan’s 361. Kay is looking for his third Deery Brothers title, having won in 2014 and 2015.
In the battle for the IMCA Late Model National Championship, Davenport’s Matt Ryan leads by one point over Todd Cooney of Pleasant Hill, Iowa. Jeremiah Hurst of Dubuque is third, only two points back. Bonus points for track championships have yet to be awarded.
Justin Kay is also the two-time defending Governor’s Cup champion. Justin won in a Late Model in 2016 and in a Modified in 2017.
Also racing at the Iowa Governor’s Cup will be IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods , and Street Stocks. Modifieds will run for a $1,000 top prize, $100-to-start, with a $25 entry fee. SportMods and Street Stocks will compete for $500-to-win, $50-to-start, with no entry fee.
Tickets for the Iowa Governor’s Cup are $20 for adults, $18 for students and seniors, children 12 and under are free. Pit passes are $35.
Pit gates open at 3:30pm. Hot laps are at 5:30pm, with racing to follow.
