Double Dose Of Racing Excitement At Lakeside Speedway

KANSAS CITY, KS (June 28, 2012) – Sometimes racing fans need a little something extra. This weekend, Lakeside Speedway will give the fans and racers in the area something extra as Friday night, June 29 the Factory Stocks, B – Mods, Grand Nationals take to the track for their weekly racing series and on Saturday, June 30 the cars and stars from the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series invade the speedway.
Fans get more than what they ever could have bargained for.
Friday night’s weekly races have been phenomenal in the 2012 season. The racers and fans are getting primed for that stretch run down the 2nd half of the season.
Kerry Davis opened up the Modified division last week with his first win at Lakeside Speedway this season. It was his first Modified Feature win since 2009.
For the 2nd straight week it was a new face in victory lane for the Modified division. Tim Karrick and Cody Agler have won 7 features in 2012, but it looks like the trend might be swinging back in favor of the competition. The points battle is starting to shape up and Karrick holds down a large lead after 10 races this season. Competitors will have to kick it into “high gear” if they want to make a run at Karrick for the championship, but there still is a long way to go. Everyone knows just how wild the points championship nights are at Lakeside!
In the Factory Stock feature last week it was anyone’s race to win coming down to the wire. Several cars were in contention. Heading out of turn number 2, Scotty Moore, Caleb Mclellan got together and forced a lot of cars to check up. When this happened, Darrin Christy, Nate Barnes and Jason Ryun made a bee line for the checkered flag. Going into turn 3 Barnes would get a flat and slid up in front of Ryun and Christy picked off his 1st win of 2012!
The competition will get even tighter as these drivers slice and dice their way to victory. Close, wheel to wheel and door to door action is exactly what the fans have come to expect and love. Eight different winners have been to the winner’s circle this season. This is just another characteristic of why the Factory Stocks are so popular at Lakeside Speedway.
Nick Newton seems to have all cylinders firing on his B Mod program. Last Friday night Newton blasted to his 4th win of the season, and it was his 2nd consecutive victory. Not only is Newton having success behind the wheel in 2012, he is also having just as much success being a modified chassis builder.
It was another wild feature event. Luke Nieman found himself out in front after taking the lead from Adam Kates, but in the end Newton would overhaul them all going away to victory.
The points battle is shaping up in this division. Newton, with his 4 wins, is on top of the standings, but drivers like Gene Claxton, Terry Bruner and a host of others are ready to drive to a championship in 2012.
Kaotic is the only way to describe last week’s Grand National Feature.

Good thing for Ben Kyle. Kyle ended up picking up the win after the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place cars all crashed on the white flag lap. Don’t think that Kyle got lucky with the win. He was moving up through the field and was holding down 4th until the melee broke out in front. It doesn’t matter sometimes how you get the win as long as you get the win!
Darren Kling might come out ahead this weekend with a padded points effort. Kling and Kelby Ostrander are tied for the points lead, but if Ostrander isn’t able to get his car repaired he might miss this week’s race. The same could be said for Gary Donaldson, 3rd place in the points standings, if he has to much damage to his race car. This also might be a week where some new drivers step into the spotlight.
Spectator gates open up at 5 p.m., hot laps are at 6:45 p.m. and the races start at 7:30 p.m.
Adult tickets are $12, kids 8 to 14 are $6 and children 7 and under are always free at Lakeside Speedway!
Saturday night the World of Outlaw Sprint Cars roar into Lakeside Speedway.
The best of the best in the sprint car world will be descending on the 1/2 mile speedway in Wyandotte County. Also on the card Saturday night will be the B Mods.
Spectator gates will open at 5 p.m., hot laps are at 6:45 p.m. and the races go green at 7:30 p.m.
