Louisa County Fairgrounds to Host Larry Richardson Memorial Fundraiser

 

CJ Speedway Open Practice

Columbus Junction, Iowa (March 5, 2025) – The Louisa County Fair Board will be hosting the Larry Richardson Memorial Fundraiser on Saturday, April 12th at the Youth Center located on the Fairgrounds in Columbus Junction.

Larry Richardson was the track manager at the CJ Speedway for 8 ½ years and was instrumental in bringing the track to the current successful level that in is in.

Larry passed away late in February and leaves behind a daughter (Nicole Houghton) and granddaughter Zoie. The Fair Board will be hosting a Free Will donation lunch to help raise money that will be donated to Nicole to help defray the Funeral expenses incurred. The lunch will begin serving at 11am and will continue until 3 pm. The Fairboard would like to thank all the sponsors that are making this event possible, Tyson Foods, Economart, LBR BBQ and the Louisa County Fair Board.

Also on tap the 12th of April, the CJ Speedway will host an open practice session for all race cars. Pit gates will open at 4 pm. And the track will be open for practice at 6 pm and will last til approximately 9 pm. The grandstands will be open throughout the practice, free of charge but there will be no concessions available during the practice session. Pit passes will be $20.

The 2025 racing season at the CJ Speedway will get underway as Sinclair Tractor of Muscatine will host the opening night race program on Friday, April 18th. The weekly race program at the CJ Speedway will include four classes of IMCA Sanctioned racing divisions, Modifieds, Stock Cars, Sport Mods and Hobby Stocks will all be in action weekly. The 2025 season will include several special events on the 4/10 mile dirt track, the first special will feature a long awaited return of the Sprint Cars as the CJ Speedway will host the Sprint Invaders on Friday, May 2nd.

The annual Tony Stewart Tribute Race featuring the high powered SLMR Late Models will be on Friday, May 30th.

The Larry Richardson Memorial Race will be held during the Louisa County Fair on Thursday, July 24th. Friday night racing gets underway with hot laps taking to the track at 7 pm with racing to follow.
