Timber Lanes Season Opener At Maquoketa Speedway Hosts 138 Cars
By: Jerry Mackey
Maquoketa, Iowa (April 19, 2025) – The 2025 Racing Season got underway on Saturday, April 19th as the Timber Lanes sponsored program saw 138 race teams battle it out at the Maquoketa Speedway. The 26 race program was run very efficiently with the final checkered flag of the night waving prior to 10 pm.
The IMCA Kinion Auto Sales Late Models headlined the program with a strong field of 18 drivers taking the green flag. Travis Denning took advantage of a front row draw on Saturday night and paced the field the entire 25 laps. A lap fifteen caution bunched the field and on the restart Andy Nezworski was able to pull alongside Denning but was unable to make the pass. Denning took the checkers a car length ahead of Nezworski with Bryce Garnhart crossing under the checkers in third.
The INEX Legends hosted a special Midwest Dirt Series event on Saturday night and a huge field of 36 drivers entered the race. The 20 lap main event was very entertaining and Maquoketa Speedway regular Robby Morrison was able to score the Series win. The lead pack saw the top positions shuffled several times throughout the main as several drivers took their turns at pressuring Morrison. Kacey Korsmo was able to hold off Dallas Ross at the finish for second.
Defending Maquoketa Speedway IMCA Modified track Champion, Jeff (Bone ) Larson scored the opening night win in the Eastern Iowa Overhead Door sponsored class. Larson advanced to the front from the 3rd row and rode the high side to the win taking the checkers ahead of a fast closing Spencer Diercks who came all the way to the front from a 9th position start. Jaden Fryer wheeled his number 8 Modified to a third place finish.
Another defending Maquoketa Speedway track Champion, Jacob Ellithorpe scored the opening night win. Ellithorpe raced to the win in the QCJeeps.Com IMCA Stock Cars. Ellithorpe raced into the lead early in the race by overtaking Kodey Miles. Kodey Miles ran with Ellithorpe the entire main event settling for second ahead of Gage Neal. In victory lane Ellithorpe thanked Timber Lanes for not only sponsoring his race team but signing on as opening night race sponsor as well.
The Amhof trucking IMCA Sportmods saw young Nathan Silaggi back up his Nifty 50 win with the opening night win topping a 20 car starting field. Silaggi is off to a hot start in his new Harris racing IMCA Sportmod. Silaggi took the win ahead of Ryan Reed and Jacob Arp.
In what has been deemed the race of the night, the Not Quite Done Yet BBQ IMCA Hobby Stocks raced the wide smooth ¼ mile with packs of cars running three and four wide lap after lap. Kile Vohringer led the first 13 laps of the 15 lap main event, but while under caution the left rear tire on the 1X of Vohringer went flat sending him to the pit area for a quick tire change. On the restart, Dan Mohr emerged from a pack to lead the last two laps in taking a ½ car length win ahead of Lukas Short and Jordan Miles. 24 drivers took the green flag in the very entertaining feature.
Travis Hawkins scored the opening night win in the McMahon Salvage 4 Cylinder class. Hawkins shot out front early and went on to hold off the constant challenges of Dustin Forbes. Cole Ferrell followed the two leaders across the stripe in third.
Racing will continue on Saturday, April 26th as Kinion Auto Sales and Classic Cars of Clarence will sponsor the night which will include all classes plus the Vintage Late Models making a special appearance at the Maquoketa Speedway. Hot laps will take to the track at 5:45 with racing to follow.
