WINSTON, MO (July 28, 2012) – Tonight a racing’ family came together to celebrate the life of one of the legends of racing. Tonight was the annual celebration for the late, great Larry Kaster, former promoter of I-35 Speedway. Truly one of the favorite nights of the year for a lot of people.

Mike Nichols (Harlan, IA) made his trip to I-35 Speedway a successful one as he won for the fourth time in only his fifth race at the track this season in the IMCA Stock Cars. It looked as if the IMCA Stock Cars were going to go caution free for the second straight week until debris hit the track. Nichols would restart second and Dean Wray third. On the restart Nichols used the high side to his advantage and kept got by the leader while keeping Wray in tow and cruised to the win. Wray (Jamesport, MO) finished second, Bruce Fair (Trenton, MO) had another good run finishing third, Jake Cameron (Winston, MO) finished fourth and Kevin Anderson (Kansas City, MO) was fifth. Nichols came from sixteenth to win the hard charger award.

Bud Wilson (Trenton, MO) won for the seventh time this season in the “Border War” Grand National division. Wilson had a good battle with Thomas Roberts (Kidder, MO) and Jim Peeler (Milan, MO) for the lead and eventually snuck by for the win. Wilson moves into second place on the season with his seventh win. Don Marrs (Shawnee, KS) was fourth and Austin Johnson (Kansas City, MO) was fifth. Wilson also won his fifth straight hard charger award.

Doug Keller (St. Joseph, MO) had another great weekend as he won for the second time this season in the IMCA Sport Mods. Keller had a great battle with Jason Billups, Brad Whitney and others but eventually pulled away. Whitney (Trenton, MO) finished second, Billups (Holt, MO) had a great run in third, Jeremy Pittsenbarger (Cameron, MO) finished fourth and Caleb Dennis (Meadville, MO), in his first night out in a new car finished fifth. Dennis started sixteenth and finished fifth to win the hard charger.

This Midwest Lightning Sprints made their third trip to I-35 Speedway. Bobby Layne wired the field to win the feature. Second went to Tony Layne, M.K. Billings was third, Ken Billings fourth and rookie Tucker Klaasmeyer was fifth.

Eric Stanton continued his torrid pace in the IMCA Hobby Stocks. Stanton (Hartford, IA) won for the ninth time this season to stay ahead of the pack for most win this year. Stanton ran down race leader Billie Hoover with a few laps to go when Hoover jumped the cushion in turn two and had overheating issues. Hoover (Stewartsville, MO) jumped out to a straightaway lead and ended up second, Lee Farmer (Bethany, MO) finished third, Darrin Christy (Kansas City, KS), who had the lead at one point finished fourth and Alex Anderson (Spickard, MO) finished fifth. Stanton once again won the hard charger.

Shane Lawson (Stewartsville, MO) started on the pole for the IMCA Modified feature and cruised to his first career win. Lawson had multiple challenges from Sam Florence (Kansas City, MO) but would hold off the young, fast, second generation driver. Florence would finish in the second spot, Cory Wray (Jamesport, MO) driving the Johnny McGinnis machine finished third, Darren Shaw Lathrop, MO) was fourth and Jason Estes (Winston, MO) fifth. Wray started fifteenth to win the hard charger.

Next week is our third concert event with Klear Ambition there to perform. The point’s battles are really heating up and taking shape as the summer action continues at I-35 Speedway!
