Track Champions to be Decided Friday Night at the Lee County Speedway
 
DONNELLSON,  IA  (August 22, 2012) – It’s hard to believe the regular points season at the Lee County Speedway is about to come to a close for the 2012 season. But that will be the case this Friday, August 24th with the PEPSI Memphis Bottling Company Season Championship Night. Four of the five regular class titles are still up for grabs, while one driver has already locked up there title.
 
Jeff Waterman currently leads the Budweiser IMCA Modified points at the speedway, even without a feature win so far in 2012 at the track, with consistent finishes. He leads Tyler Cale by only 5 points going into the final points night of the season, as Cale has used 3 feature wins to stay close to Waterman. Brandon Banks sits 17 points back from Waterman and 12 points back of Cale in the number 3 spot in points. Ryan Cook currently holds down the number 4 spot in points, just ahead of Derek Hamm who is 5th. Dustin Crear is 6th in points, while defending track champion Josh Foster comes into the night in 7th. Brandon Savage sits 12 points ahead of Bill Roberts Jr. in the battle for 8th. While Kyle Hill and Lonnie Heap are currently tied for the 10th spot in points.
 
For the second year in a row the Donnellson Tire IMCA Stock Car track champion will be determined at the checkered flag of the feature. Defending track champion Matt Greiner currently has a 1 point lead over Jason Cook. While both have won 3 feature wins on the season Greiner holds the tie breaker, as 1 of Cook’s win came on a non points night. Jeff Mueller sits 3rd in points, only 8 points back of Greiner and 7 back of Cook. Cale Samberg sits only 5 points ahead of Derek St. Clair in the battle for the number 4 and 5 spots in the points. John Oliver Jr. and Jim Lynch are only separated by 2 points in the battle for 6th and 7th in points. Abe Huls has used 4 features win in 8 starts to hold down 8th in points, while Corey Strothman and Jeremy Pundt round out the top 10.
 
Tony Dunker doesn’t even have to show up on Friday night, as he has already locked up the 2012 Shottenkirk Parts Express IMCA SportMod track title. Dunker, who has won 4 features on the season at the track, sits 47 points ahead of the second place car with the maximum number of points a person can earn by winning a feature is 40. Jim Gilenwater has used 6 feature wins in 9 starts to climb up to second, but only holds it by 2 points over John Oliver Jr., who is 3rd in points. Brandon Ruffcorn and Rick Barlow Jr. are tied for the number 4th spot in points, with Jacob Smith sitting in 6th. Phillip Cossel and Levi Smith are tied for the number 7th spot in points, with Charles VanZandt holding down 9th. Brandon Dale holds a 15 point advantage over Jay Kirchner in the battle for the 10th spot in points.
 
Dan Wenig broke Jake Wenig’s 6 race winning streak at the track last week to take over the top spot in the Coor’s Light LCS Hobby Stock points battle. Dan currently leads Jake by only 3 points, with Jake holding the tie breaker advantage by winning 6 features to Dan’s two. Victor Hastings sits in 3rd, with Kevin Cheney in 4th and Brian Hoener holding down the number 5 spot. Ethan Thompson, Nathan Anders, Dugan Thye, Luke McLaughlin and Dane Fenton round out the top 10 in points.
 
Defending Sunline Auto Parts IMCA Sport Compact track champion Darin Smith sits atop the points once again this year going into the final week of points racing at the speedway. Despite only picking up 1 feature win on the season, Smith holds a 16 point lead over Chuck Fullenkamp. Fullenkamp, who has won 4 feature wins on the season, is comfortably sitting in second over Kimberly Abbott. But Abbott, Brandon Lambert and Scott Smith are only separated by 5 points in the battle for that 3rd spot in points. Austen Becerra, Mike Hornung Jr., William Michel, Dakota Anderson and C.J. Loring rounding out the top 10.
 
Also something new that will be used on the night is a different format to determine the feature line ups. Rather then just lining them up by points for the feature the drivers will have to earn a good starting spot with how they finish there heat. The following is a couple of examples on how the night could be ran:
 
If 14 cars show up in a class, then 2 heat races will be ran. The first heat will take the top 7 in points and invert them, while the second heat will be lined up by average point invert. So any new cars will start on the tail. Then heat one will make up the first 7 spots in the feature, lined up how they finish the heat. The second heat will fill the rest of the field out, with the winner starting in 8th. So a new car will start 7th in the second heat and if they can win the heat the best they can start the feature is 8th, which is better then 14th.

If 18+ cars show up, then the top 6 in points will make up heat 1, with the 2nd and 3rd heats inverted by points average. Once again new cars will start on the rear. Heat 1 finish will then make up the first 3 rows of the feature, with heat 2 finish making up the inside rows from 7th on back and heat 3 finish making up the outside rows from 8th on back.
 
So come on out this Friday, August 24th for PEPSI Memphis Bottling Company Season Championship Night to see who takes home the 2012 track titles. In action will be the Budweiser IMCA Modifieds, Donnellson Tire IMCA Stock Cars, Shottenkirk Parts Express IMCA SportMods, Coor’s Light LCS Hobby Stocks and Sunline Auto Parts IMCA Sport Compacts.
 
Gates will open at 5:30 p.m., hot laps at 7:00 p.m. and racing at 7:30 p.m. Grandstand admission will be $9 for adults, seniors $7, students 11-15 are $5, while kids 10 and under are always FREE! Pit Passes are $25.
