Goodland Machine sponsors new series for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars in Kansas

GOODLAND, Kan. (March 21, 2013) – The business owned by a self-professed “full-fendered guy” is title sponsor of the Dirt Track Central Goodland Machine Great Plains Series.

Goodland Machine and Automotive of Goodland, Kan., provides the $2,000 point fund to be paid to top 10 drivers in final point standings for the inaugural IMCA Sunoco Stock Car tour.

“Racing has always been a lot of fun for us. We’ve sponsored a number of local drivers in the past and thought this series would be a good investment on our part,” Goodland Machine owner Terry Selbe said. “I like all the divisions, but the Stock Cars are the one I prefer. I’m a full-fendered guy, I guess.”

Already a veteran of the irrigation industry, Selbe started Goodland Machine at his home in 1995. The business expanded to a new location in 2001, branching out to add sprinkler supplies in 2007 and became a dealer for Sukup Manufacturing-built grain bins and metal buildings in 2009.

“Racing has been a lot of fun for us. There’s a lot of camaraderie in the pits and we’ve made a lot of friends,” said Selbe. “We’ve been fortunate to have been able to do that the last couple years.”

Ten Great Plains Series events are scheduled at five different tracks in Kansas.

Opening night is April 5 at RPM Speedway. WaKeeney Speedway, Liberal Fairgrounds Speedway and Thunder Hill Speedway host events before the Aug. 18 finale at Thomas County Speedway.

The series champion earns a $500 share of the point fund.

Point fund checks will be presented during the national awards banquet in November or mailed beginning the following week from the IMCA home office.

“This is a great partnership for a tour of this nature and Goodland Machine is really supportive of this endeavor,” IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder said. “It has been a few years in the works and we’ll see who is crowned the first champion in August.”
