INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – Armed Forces Day is a day to pay tribute to the men and women who serve the United States’ armed forces. Observed this year on Saturday, May 18, those who serve our country will be honored during the weekly racing program at Independence Motor Speedway.

All American military personnel, both past and present, will be admitted free to the grandstands for the May 18 program by presenting their military identification. Those currently serving are encouraged to dress in uniform for the night’s show.

Opening ceremonies will feature Dennis Halverson, singer for the The Dennis Wayne Gang. Halverson, a former Marine, will open the show with his song, “American,” while former and current service men and women in the pit area make their way to the top of turns three and four.

Halverson is also scheduled to sing the Star Spangled Banner while area AMVETS riders present the nation’s colors on the speedway.
