Green Flag Waves June 8 on Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals
Indiana’s Tri-State Speedway ready for season-opener of 29 race tour
CONCORD, N.C. – May 15, 2013 – The Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals kicks off Saturday, June 8, at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind. During the next 42 hot summer nights, the tour will travel across eight states in the heart of DIRTcar Racing’s UMP region before concluding in mid-July at Oakshade Raceway in Wauseon, Ohio.
The tour will travel an astonishing 4,776 miles and make 29 stops at 27 different facilities making it the largest schedule in its three-year history. Tri-State Speedway and Kankakee County Speedway are the only tracks with two Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals events this season.
Defending champion Kenny Wallace and 2011 champ Mike Harrison will no doubt face fierce competition in their efforts to win a second title, with competitors from as far away as North Carolina planning to run a majority of the races.
“Summit Racing knows DIRTcar UMP Modifieds are one of the strongest divisions in motorsports,” said Jim Greenleaf, Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports and Event Manager. “Over the last three years, we have been aggressively adding top of the line products to ensure UMP Modified racers can get the parts they need at unbeatable prices with the best service in the industry. We pride ourselves on providing the best pricing we possibly can; the Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals is designed for the working man or woman to be able to compete and run for a championship while not breaking the bank.”
As Title Sponsor of the series, Summit Racing Equipment will post a $10,000 cash point fund along with more than $23,000 in Summit Racing Equipment in other awards. All 22 positions in the feature will be sponsored with 20 positions receiving $50, $40, or $25 to spend at Summit Racing Equipment and two positions receiving product awards from Wrisco Aluminum and Hoosier Racing Tire. With more than $1,100 up for grabs each night in contingency monies along with a nightly cash purse, the competition will be fierce.
“I can’t thank Summit enough for their contributions to the Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals,” said Jeff Curl, winner at Kankakee Speedway in 2012. “This is our touring series and gives modified drivers much needed national exposure throughout the summer. I look forward to the challenges presented at each race with such fierce competition, when you combine the best national drivers with heavy local talent in the Midwest; it’s a recipe for door to door action. Running this tour has definitely made my team better.”
Last year 552 different drivers competed in at least one Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals race with Devin Gilpin winning three events. There were 23 different winners in 28 races. The largest car count for the tour was 53 at Tri-State Speedway on July 8 followed closely by 52 at Wilmot Raceway on June 17. On 17 different occasions, the tour saw more than 30 cars register with an average car count of 33.
“DIRTcar Racing is happy to offer the Modifieds a common set of rules, procedures, and payoffs for the tracks that plan to host a Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals race in 2013,” stated Sam Driggers, DIRTcar UMP Director. “Racing in the Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals has become a highlight for our UMP Modified teams and winning an event on this tour is like winning the Daytona 500. The level of competition night in and night out is second to none, even NASCAR drivers Kenny Wallace and Ken Schrader have stated if you can win here, you can win anywhere.”
For all 2013 races, the tire rule will be as follows: Hoosier A-40, D-40, H-40 compounds. Raceceivers and transponders will be mandatory at ALL Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals events with “Hot Lap” qualifying taking place each night.
