Hawkeye Dirt Tour date at Clay County weathered out
SPENCER, Iowa (May 16) – Looming thunder storms and forecasts for winds in excess of 50 miles an hour have resulted in cancellation of this evening’s Karl Performance Hawkeye Dirt Tour event at Clay County Fairgrounds Speedway.
The IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified series was to have made its first-ever appearance at Spencer on Thursday. With rain in the forecast, officials opted to pull the plug instead of waiting until more race teams arrived at the track.
IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods were also on the Clay County card. No reschedule date has been announced.
“It’s unfortunate we couldn’t get this race in,” IMCA Vice President of Operations Brett Root said. “Several Modified drivers were already in Spencer and we anticipated large numbers of entries in all divisions.”
Next date for the Hawkeye Dirt Tour is the Monday, May 27 Memorial Day show at I-35 Speedway in Mason City. Gates open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6 p.m. with racing to follow.
The Modified main event pays $1,000 to win and is a qualifier for the 2013 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot.
