Lansing, Rock Rapids, Decorah kick off whirlwind June Speedweeks for USMTS

| June 4, 2013

WEBSTER CITY, Iowa (June 4) – The month of June is typically the busiest month of the year for the United States Modified Touring Series, and this year is certainly no different as 17 races over the course of 24 days pack the calendar this month.

Stops in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas are on tap for the tireless USMTS touring titans, and plenty of vacation and/or sick day memos will cross the desks of those managers who employ USMTS fans.

The month of June will kick off with some unfinished business from the previous month. The party gets started at the Chateau Raceway in Lansing, Minn., for make-up features on June 6. The event was postponed by rain on May 24 just after completion of qualifying heat races. This race will feature the rained-out “B” Mains and the “A” Main for the USMTS Modifieds. To add even more explosive action to the show, promoter Darin Toot has added the Iron Man Challenge for USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods to this event.

The series will then move to the Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa, on Friday, June 7, for another contest in the tough-as-nails Farm Boy BBQ Northern Region presented by Day Motor Sports. The Iron Man Challenge for USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods will round out the show. Racing starts at 7:30 and fans can pick up $2-off coupons at the Casey’s General Store located at 709 1st Ave. in Rock Rapids.

Then on Saturday, June 8, the haulers head back east on I-90 for the only appearance of the year at the Upper Iowa Speedway in Decorah, Iowa. For the third straight night, the Iron Man Challenge featuring USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods will round out the program. Coupons good for $2 off adult grandstand admission are available at Casey’s General Stores locations in Decorah and Freeport.

Two of the seven days off during the 24-day stretch will be Sunday and Monday, with the rain-delayed $3,000-to-win event at the I-35 Speedway in Mason City, Iowa, on Tuesday, June 11. On Wednesday, June 12, the USMTS Casey’s Cup Series moves north to the Amsoil Speedway in Superior, Wis., and then the Eagle Valley Speedway in Jim Falls, Wis.—the series’ first-ever visits to both tracks. Then on Friday and Saturday, June 14-15, the USMTS Modifieds join the UMP Late Models “Hell Tour” at the Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., for two nights during the 15th Annual Masters.

All eight events in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin will awards points in the Farm Boy BBQ Sauce Northern Region where the regional points champion of the 11-race campaign will pocket $5,000 at the season-ending awards banquet.

After four days off, the series heads south to the 81 Speedway near Wichita, Kan., on Thursday, June 20. This is a late add as the event at the Great American Dirt Track in Jetmore, Kan., was recently canceled.

Another first-time stop happens Friday, June 21, at Glen Thompson’s Liberal Fairgrounds Speedway in Liberal, Kan. From there, teams trek to the south to finish up the Allgayer, Inc. Southern Region races.

On Saturday, June 22, the USMTS Modifieds make their only appearance of 2013 at the Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas, and then on Sunday, June 23, the first-ever appearance at the Elk City Speedway in Elk City, Okla.

The final rest day of Speedweeks will take place on Monday before the first ever visit to the Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, on Tuesday, June 25. On Wednesday, June 26, it’s on to the Heart O’ Texas Speedway near Waco, then back to the north for three nights to finish up on Thursday-Saturday, June 27-29, with repeat visits to the Kennedale (Texas) Speedway Park, RPM Speedway in Crandall, Texas, and Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore, Okla.
