W-W Motorsports Night at the Winston Raceway

WINSTON, MO (June 29, 2013) – Kicking off the nights racing action were the always exciting Grand Nationals. Brothers Houston and Austin Johnson started side by side on the front row, with younger Houston “Moose” Johnson #97 taking the early lead. Older brother Austin Johnson #98 would however find his way past Houston to pick up his first victory of the season. Houston would have to settle for second place while Bud Wilson #75 suffered mechanical problems early to finish third.
Thomas Roberts #65x continued his winning way in the IMCA Stock car class picking up win number two for the 2013 season. Roberts was challenged by Jeff Dixon #88 early, until mechanical problems forced Dixon to the pits. Hard racing continued behind Roberts as point leader Dean Wray #77 would place second and Kevin Anderson #417 would drive away third. Brad Whitney #x9 raced his way into a solid fourth place spot, and Greg Keuhn #6x rounded out the top five.
With a large field of IMCA Sport Mods, the action was fast and furious for the feature. “Wild Child” Nic Hanes #9h charged through the field from a fifth row inside starting spot to claim the nights victory. Anthony Asher #37 battled Randy Ainsworth #57 to come home second with Ainsworth third. Wes Bestgen #15b and Brandon Bouzek #75 battled late with Bestgen placing fourth and Bouzek fifth.
Next onto the 3/8 mile were the IMCA Hobby Stocks, with a first time winner finding victory lane. Mich Ross #34 would start second row outside and take the lead early, never to relinquish the top spot again on his way to his first ever feature win at I-35 Speedway. Lee Farmer #17f would recover from an early race spin to finish second with Jeremy Turner #55L third. Tyson Overton #42t would finish fourth and rookie contender Cody Doolittle #5 fifth.
Returning to the track this week in winning fashion witnessed Cory Wray #69n drive his way from a tenth starting position to claim the victory. Bud Wilson #5w would lead early only to be forced to settle for second and Jeff Marriott #56 third. Darren Shaw #11 battled Jim Cameron #96c the entire race to finish fourth, with Cameron fifth.
The crowd at I-35 Speedway was treated to pin the ribbon on the race car and stinky foot races at Intermission. Just a reminder to everyone that next Saturday night will be the fireworks spectacular after the races and a hula hoop contest during Intermission. We ask all fans that are willing to please bring a hula hoop to the races, even if you do not wish to participate as someone else may be able to use yours.
