Five new winners following May 5 features at 34 Raceway

BURLINGTON, IA (5-5-12) The second night of the 2012 point season at 34 Raceway was completed Saturday night, May 5 with five new faces taking the checkered flag this week as well as one repeat winner.
Taking the checkered flag first this week were Lonnie Bailey, Quincy, Il (late models); Tony Dunker, Quincy, Il. (sport mods), Ryan Jamison, Mediapolis (305 sprints), Alex Buffington, Wapello (stock cars), and Matt Gavin, Kirkwood, Il. (hobby stocks). Nick Wilkerson, Morning Sun, picked up his third straight win in the 4 cylinder division.
Coming up this week, May12 will be KILJ Radio Night at the races with the W.T. Gabeline and Sons Trucking 305 Sprints, Coors Silver Bullet IMCA Modifieds, Mikes Auto Parts IMCA Stock Cars, Pepsi Outlaw Hobby Stocks , I-Wireless/Louisa Communications 4 Cylinders and the Holmes Concrete Mod Lites .
The Weikert Iron and Metal Sport Mods made their first appearance of the year with Tony Dunker, Quincy, Il., getting the win. Dunker took the lead on the first lap from his front row start working to hold off a challenge from Jim Gillenwater, Keokuk after each of the five yellow flags for the win. Gillenwater finished third and Chris Larson followed in third in the fourteen car field
Wapellos Alex Buffington got his first IMCA Stock Car this year win in dominant style. Buffington would pull away in the nineteen car field early after taking the lead from his front row start. Jeff Mueller, New London, would challenge Buffington after each of the three yellow flag restarts but wouldnt be able to keep up with Buffington who would pull away at the end for the win, as Mueller won the five way battle for second.
Mediapolis Ryan Jamison picked up a win in the 305 sprint division taking the lead from his front row start. Jamison held off a couple serious challenges from Donnie Steward, who was riding the high side, but held on to take the win by several car lengths in the twenty lap, seventeen car feature.
Lonnie Bailey, Quincy, Il. led the field on the first lap and never looked back taking the checkered flag in the non stop IMCA late model race. Nate Beuseling took second and Tom Goble finished third.
Matt Gavin, Kirkwood, Il. took the lead from Jake Wenig on lap eleven of the fifteen lap hobby stock feature for his first win at 34 Raceway this season. A caution on lap fourteen set up a green, white, checkered finish but was able to Gavin hold on for the win. The race was stopped on lap six when Loyd Duffie, Avon, Il barrel rolled on the front stretch.
The final feature race of the night again saw Morning Suns Nick Wilkerson take the checkered flag for the third straight week. Wilkerson took the lead from Chuck Fullencamp on lap two following a yellow flag restart. Fullencamp and John Whalen gave chase but wouldnt be able to catch the leader who would take the checkered flag by four car lengths.
