Independence Motor Speedway to honor Dan Snyder July 27
INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (July 22, 2013) – Longtime race fan and engine builder Dan Snyder will be honored Saturday, July 27 at Independence Motor Speedway.
Snyder, who was diagnosed with Metastatic Esophageal cancer earlier this year, has been undergoing treatments to fight the disease and his family and friends have arranged to honor him during the weekly racing program at the speedway.
Dan Snyder Night will offer a variety of bonus money in the Performance Bodies IMCA Modified and Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMod divisions. Drivers displaying OHB Racing Engines by Dan Snyder decals on their cars will be eligible for the additional prize money.
Snyder’s sons will provide a majority of the bonuses, which includes $100 to the hard charger in the Modified and SportMod features, courtesy of Chris Snyder of Snyder Auto Glass. Andy Snyder will add an additional $100 to the Modified winner’s share. Happel Farms will give a $50 bonus to the Modified winner.
Tony Snyder of Snyder Masonry will award $100 to the highest finishing non-crate engine in the Modified feature and $50 bonuses will be up-for-grabs for three drivers in the Modified feature. Dan Snyder will draw three random finishing positions prior to the feature and the drivers finishing in those spots will receive $50 bonuses courtesy of Jason Snyder and Grant and Amanda Harkrader.
Justin O’Brien of RAGE Chassis will provide an additional $200 in prize money. He will give $50 to each driver finishing second through fifth in the Modified feature.
Dan Snyder decals and T-shirts will be available for purchase under the grandstands July 27.
Kids in attendance will also have the chance to win. Each driver in the Modified and SportMod divisions will sign Frisbees upon checking in that evening. Those Frisbees will be tossed into the grandstands during intermission. The kids who catch the Frisbees of that evening’s Modified and SportMod winners will receive $25 gift cards to Toys-R-Us.
A five-lap all-Snyder Modified dash will also take place during intermission. Modified drivers Jason, Chris and Tony Snyder will compete in the dash, along with their brother, Andy.
Dan Snyder will join Gary Crawford in the pace car throughout the event and present trophies to the evening’s feature winners.
Gates open at 4 p.m. July 27, with hot laps slated for 6 and racing to follow. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $7 for students ages 12-17. Kids 11 and under will be admitted free if accompanying a paid adult. Pit passes are $25.
The July 27 event leads up to the Dan Snyder Benefit scheduled for Friday, August 9, at the Bremer County 4-H Building in Waverly. Individuals are encouraged to drive their classic cars or motorcycles to the benefit for a special Show & Shine from 5-7 p.m. with a dinner held from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
