World of Outlaws Late Models, Hawkeye Dirt Tour together August 5 in Independence

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (July 23, 2013) –  In what is considered the biggest event in track history, a pair of touring series will converge on Independence Motor Speedway on Monday night, August 5.

The World of Outlaws Late Model Series and the Karl Performance Hawkeye Dirt Tour presented by XSAN will invade the 3/8-mile oval in a first-of-its-kind event.

For the third straight year, the top touring Late Model drivers in the country will again make its sole stop in Iowa in Independence for the $10,000-to-win show. Josh Richards was the 2011 winner and Darrell Lanigan took top honors in 2012.

The Hawkeye Dirt Tour, which pays $1,000 to the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified winner, will be making its first visit to the speedway since the tour’s inaugural program in May of 2010. Josh Foster topped a field of 59 of the best open wheel drivers in the Midwest to win the first-ever series event.

The August 5 special will showcase the two series together for the first time in history.

The Late Models will compete through time trials and qualifying races for a spot in the 50-lap main event. The Modifieds will compete under the draw/redraw format to qualify for their 30-lap feature.

The Late Model tire rule for the August 5 special, which differs from last season, will allow LM40, B55 and 1600 tires, but no white dots.

While there is a $50 registration fee for all Modifieds competing, those drivers will receive a free pit pass that evening.

General grandstand admission on August 5 is $30. Tickets for kids 12 and under are $15. Pit passes are $35. Tickets will not be sold in advance.

Both pit gate and grandstand open at 4 p.m., however the pit area will be available throughout the afternoon for the traveling drivers. Hot laps are scheduled for 6:45 with qualifying to follow.
