Marshalltown, Iowa (July 26th,  2013) – Perfect night for racing on Johnny Ray’s Sports Bar and Grille Night at the Marshalltown Speedway as the weather was spring and fall like with temperatures in the lower seventies. The race track produced some great three, four and five racing which made for some amazing finishes.

Merv Chandler borrowing his son’s race car jumped into the lead in the IMCA Sport Compacts feature and never looked back in root to take his seventh win of the season at MoTown. David Moorman comes home in the runner-up position, Alec Gill driving Jon Gill’s car came home third, Chad Larson was fourth and Joe Alday was fifth.

Dusty Masolini grabbed the early race lead in the Toby K’s Hideaway Mod Lites feature but he had a slight bobble and that opened the door for Mike Kennedy. Kennedy grabbed the lead away on lap four but his short lived as Josh May worked his way through the field and grab the top spot away on lap seven. May led the remaining laps to take the win for the second week in a row and sixth total at MoTown. Andy Hennigar, Mike Kennedy, Mike Morrill and Masolini rounded out the top five.

Mike’s Hard Lemonade IMCA Hobby Stocks feature saw Jennifer Hulin start off a little better this week as she grabbed the lead on opening lap. Jacob Keiser took the lead away on lap two and just after the completion of lap two the caution waved when three cars get together. On the restart, they were racing hard for position behind the leader but it was Keiser remaining out front. Keiser lost the lead on lap four when he slid up the track and open the bottom side for Eric Stanton. Stanton held off several late race challenges from Bill Bonnett to take his third win of the season at Motown. Jacob Keiser came home third, Gary Pfantz was fourth and Hulin came home in fifth.

After having the initial start called back in the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods feature it was Shawn Simatovich grabbing the lead. Simatovich lost the lead on lap two when Bill Hildreth snuck the bumper in the inside but just after the completion of lap two the caution waved when Simatovich lost the handle in turn four and Brandon Williams came to a rest in turn one. On the restart, Hildreth had to deal with Johnathan Logue and Chad Ryerson but it was neither of them grabbing the top spot away from Hildreth, it was Eric Elliott grabbing it away. Elliott went on and start to pull away as he builded up a ten-car length advantage over second place when the caution waved on lap thirteen for debris on the race track. Elliott saw Carter VanDenBerg and Jenae Gustin on his back bumper, he held off any challenges from them to take his second win in back-to-weeks and third of the season. VanDenBerg finish second with Gustin in third. Paul Nagle after getting some early damage to the front of his car found his way in fourth and Ben Kates was fifth.

Cory Piffer grabbed the lead on the opening lap in the Amsoil IMCA Stock Car feature but it was Tracy Gienger making the bottom side work to grab the lead away on lap two. Gienger continued to lead until the cautions waved on lap six and then again on lap eight. Gienger lost the lead when Derek Reimer, Steve Meyer and Jay Schmidt wanted to make it a four car battle for the top spot. Reimer grabbed the lead away on lap nine then he slip the grip and that allowed Steve Meyer to find the traction on the bottom side. Meyer grabbed the top spot and held off any attempt from Jay Schmidt on the high side through out remaining laps. For Meyer it was win number two for the season at MoTown, Schmidt finish in the runner up spot. Reimer, Norman Chesmore and Gienger rounded out the top five.

Final Feature of the night was the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds feature saw a different driver from Kellogg grab the lead as this week it was David Brown. Brown lead the first three laps before Ronn Lauritzen grabbed the top spot away. Laurtizen and the field saw the only caution wave on lap five and this set Brown and Jon Snyder on back side, Snyder worked his way eventual by Brown and set his sights on Lauritzen. Lauritzen and Snyder race for the top spot on laps eight and nine, with Laurtizen leading lap eight and then Snyder on lap nine. Snyder eventually was able to pull away and take his third win in as many weeks. Lauritzen was second, Cayden Carter was third, Mike Van Genderen was fourth and David Brown came home fifth.
