BURLINGTON, IA (5-19-12) The hot humid Saturday afternoon weather cooled down and made for a beautiful night to watch an exciting night or racing  at 34 Raceway Saturday night May 19.  Three new faces made it to the winners circle in the fourth night of point race action. Getting their first wins this season at 34 Raceway were Matt Bailey, Quincy, Il. (late models), Scott Hogan, Vinton (modifieds), and last years track champion Jeff Mueller, New London (stock cars). Returning to the winners circle this week were  Donnie  Steward, West Burlington (305 Sprints), Matt Gavin, Kirkwood, Ill (hobby stocks) and Nick Wilkerson, Morning Sun (4 Cylinders).

Coming up this weekend will be 2 Nights of racing. Come on out to 34 Raceway Saturday, May 26 for the Coors Lite Silver Bullet $5 Fan Appreciation/Vintage Night. Grandstand admission is just $5 Saturday night so  bring the family. And remember kids 10 and under are admitted free. Taking to the track will be  the IMCA Late Models,  Coors Silver Bullet IMCA Modifieds, Mikes Auto Parts IMCA Stock Cars, Pepsi Hobby Stocks, Weikert Iron and Metal Sport Mods. Also on the card are Vintage cars.

Then come back Sunday night (May 27) this Memorial Day weekend for more racing action when the MOWA (Midwest Open Wheel Association) 410 sprints will be flying around the 3/8 high bank. Also taking to the track will be the Pepsi Hobby Stocks, I-Wireless/Louisa Communications 4 Cylinders and the Holmes Concrete Mod Lites. For more information go to www.34raceway.com.

Saturday night at 34 Raceway saw three drivers get their first wins for 2012. The first of those was Scott Hogan. Hogan makes the trip each week from Vinton, Iowa and this week the ride home was a celebration when Hogan  won the twenty lap Coors Silver Bullet IMCA Modified feature. Jeff Waterman led the sixteen car field for eighteen of the twenty laps before Hogan would pass him for the lead with two laps to go. Following Hogan across the finish line was Josh Foster and Waterman finished third.

2011 IMCA Stock Car track champion, Jeff Mueller, raced to his first win this year at 34 Raceway in the second feature of the night. Mueller took the lead from Chris Webb on lap nine of the twenty lap feature pulling away at the end as he took the checkered. As usuall the stock car feature proved to be another exciting race with three and even four wide racing for the battle for the top five positions. Matt Greiner would follow Mueller across the finish line  to finish second and Webb would take third.

Chase Wanner lead the W.T. Gabeline and Sons Trucking 305 sprints around the first four laps of the twenty lap race before giving it up to Justin Newberry on lap five following a yellow flag restart. Newberrys lead would be short when Donnie Steward would take over the number one spot on lap six. Two more cautions slowed the pace the next two laps but then it was not stop action with Steward picking up his third win, second it two weeks. Following Steward across the finish line was Newberry and Dustin Whiting.

Matt Bailey, Quincy, Il. took the lead from his front row start and never  looked back as he later pulled away from the field to get his first IMCA Late Model win this year.  With Bailey holding a commanding lead the battle for second was exciting to watch between Todd Malmstrom, Colby Springsteen and Nate Beuseling as they exchanged positions several times. Beuseling would win the battle following Bailey across the finish line for second.

Nick Wilkerson, Morning Sun, is on a streak a lot of drivers would dream about. Wilkerson took the lead from James Roose on lap two of the twelve lap, 14 car feature and went on to take the checkered flag for the fifth week in a row. Finishing in second was Roose and Billy Stanford took third.

The final feature of the night saw sixteen Pepsi Hobby Stocks take to the track with Travis Plummer and Mark Bowman on the front row. Plummer took the early lead and led the field for the next three laps before Dan Wenig would take over. Wenig would only hold the lead for two laps before Matt Gavin would pass the leader on lap six and would then go on to take the checkered flag for his second win this season.  Jake Wenig would move up to finish second from his seventh row start  and Dan Wenig would follow to finish third.
