WINSTON, MO (September 7, 2013) – Kicking things off on Open Night at the Races were the Grand Nationals, Bud Wilson #75 took the lead early and never looked back on his way to victory lane, winning both heat race and feature event.  Don Marrs #9 would challenge early, only to settle for second place.  Houston Johnson #97 would finish third while older brother Austin Johnson #98 would round out the nights top four.

Back to I-35 Speedway on Q-Country 92.7 Open Night was the always exciting Show-Me Vintage Racers.  Vintage driver Jim Clevenger #22, at the young age of 75, picked up the feature win in the Vintage class.  Brian “Bump” Strong driving #7 this week would charge late only to settle for second.  Newcomer to I-35 Speedway and the Show-Me Vintage class Jimmy Smith #03 would impress all with a solid third place finish.  Dave Baldwin #4 would lead early, after winning the heat race, but would fade late to finish fourth with Michael Snedeger #711 fifth.

As the broken record goes the Stock Car Class never ceases to amaze the fans with great, side by side, close racing.  Throw a blanket over the top five at any time as “Big” Jeff Dixon #88 would use a high line to his advantage to pick up the feature win.  Heat race winner and one time leader “Racin” Jason Estes #99.7 would battle back after an early race encounter to finish a close second.  Jerry Schmitt #11x would also lead early only to be overcome by the top two cars to place third, with Jeremy Curless #33 fourth.  Jay Barnes #19 drove a smooth race to round out the feature’s top five.  The other heat race winner was “The Hulk” Jake Cameron #86c.

Open Night witnessed seventeen Sport/B-Modifieds take to the 3/8 mile of dirt.  “Father Time” Gene Claxton #42 seems to get better with age as he added another victory to his already impressive record of wins.  Chasing Claxton to the line to finish second saw “Wild Child” Nic Hanes #9h come from the back of the pack.  Ronnie Miller #76 would dodge a major altercation on the front straight to finish a solid third holding off the hard charge of “Marine Tough” Clint Baker #17x who would place fourth.  Wes Bestgen #15b, who ran second for much of the race, would develop mechanical issues on the last lap to fade to fifth.  Heat race winners were Gene Claxton #42, Travis Walker #71, and Clint Baker #17x.

Hobby Stock driver Mich Ross #34 continues to dominate I-35 Speedway making it four feature wins in a row.  Lee Farmer #17f who would run second to Ross throughout the race would spin on the last lap in turn four, which opened the door for Billie Hoover #21h to capitalize and finish second.  Scott Treadwell #9t9 would also slip by and place third, moving Farmer to finish fourth. Heat race winner David Truskett #83 would round out the feature’s top five.

Open Modifieds would complete the night’s events, with heavy hitters in the top five spots.  “Sir” Issac Dotson #67d would use an outside row one starting spot and never look back as he would drive away with the victory.  “Big Daddy” Dennis Elliott #29 would hold off the impressive high side charge of Tim Setzer #51 to finish second, holding Setzer to third.  Darren Shaw #11 would battle Zach Sanders #69 lap after lap to place fourth, with Sanders fifth.  Heat race winners included Zack Sanders #69, Darren Shaw #11, and Jeff Marriott #56.

I-35 Speedway Thanks all of our loyal fans for coming out for Q-Country 92.7 Open Night at the Races.  The Hula-Hoop contest witnessed Alexis Lopez defeat twin sister Alyssa Lopez by one Hula-Hoop.  Fun was had and trophies were received by all participants.  Intermission entertainment also consisted of the Cha-Cha Slide down front, with some great dancing action.  We invite everyone back next week, as we will bring back “Water Balloon Dodge-ball” and NASCAR trivia during Intermission.  IMCA classes will be back in action as the point battles continue at I-35 Speedway “Dirt Trackin at its Best”.
