McCarthy Auto Group Opening Night at I-35 Speedway

Winston, MO (March 29, 2014) – As the 2014 racing season kicks off the Grand Nationals took to the near perfect 3/8 mile of dirt.  After winning his heat race, and leading every lap of a green to checkered feature; Buz Kaster #54 proved he still has what it takes to find victory lane.  Buz was challenged every lap by Austin Johnson #98, until Austin’s hood flew up impairing his vision and hopes of winning.  Austin would hold off a hard charging younger brother Houston Johnson #97 for second, leaving Houston third. While Dave Petty Jr. #46, would suffer mechanical issues rendering him fourth.

USRA Hobby Stocks witnessed the return of the #7b, 2012 track champion Eric Stanton.  Stanton would lead every lap of the heat race as well as every lap of the feature in route to claiming the night’s top spot.  2013 track champion Mich Ross #34 would challenge early only to fade late and settle for second place.  Jeremy Turner #55L would race his way to a solid third, and Gary Ainsworth #83 would finish fourth.

Putting on an exciting show of racing ability, the USRA B-Mod’s would not disappoint those in attendance.  Chad Feather #11c, after winning his heat race, would use an outside front-row starting position to take the early lead.  Feather would drive a near flawless race until a late race slip coming off turn four with three laps to go would move him to a solid second place finish.  Chad Clancy #21c, also a heat race winner, was waiting patiently for that one mistake to make his move.  Once Feather slipped high that was all Clancy needed to capitalize and win the feature.  Jim Cameron #96c would hold off the always racy Randy Ainsworth #57, as they would finish third and fourth respectively.  Clint Baker #17x was looming in the shadows the whole race for his opportunity to pounce, only to be held to a solid fifth place finish.

In the always competitive USRA Stock Cars two familiar faces were seen dueling until the bitter end.  Thomas Roberts #65x would use the momentum from a heat race win to propel him to an early feature lead.  Roberts would hold off the challenge of Dean Wray and John Crews, until mechanical problems forced him to the pits.  Once Roberts relinquished the lead, 2013 track champion Dean Wray #77 took full advantage on his way to victory.  John Crews #12c had an outstanding night by winning his heat race and placing second in the feature.  Joe Zadina #3 would charge from the back of the pack to place third.  Richard Moulton and Jeff Dixon would battle nearly every lap, with the #18 of Moulton fourth and the #88 of Dixon rounding out the top five.

With a locked and loaded USRA Modified field the action was fast and furious from start to finish.  After post-race inspection, Dennis Elliott #29 was declared the winner.  Elliott would hold off the charging young gun Trevor Hunt #99H to second, with Shad Badder #73B third.  Aaron Marrant #34A would run up front early only to fade to a fourth place finish.  Zach Sanders #69 would win his heat race then recover in the feature from a spin in turn four to place a solid fifth.  Other heat race winners included Ryan Schaffer #R21 and Terry Schultz #90.
