TULSA, Okla. (Jan. 4, 2007) – The American Sprint Car Series continues to expand
its Regional reach with the addition of the ASCS Rebel Region in 2007. The Rebel
Region brings the total of ASCS Region to twelve in addition to the O'Reilly
ASCoT National series.
Under the guidance of Regional Director Larry Sams, the ASCS Rebel Region will
sanction Sprint Car racing in Alabama, Georgia and North Florida.
"Larry Sams has a tremendous background in Sprint Car racing and he'll do a
great job of reviving Sprint Car racing in that area with the ASCS Rebel
Region," according to ASCS President and founder Emmett Hahn.
Sams background in Sprint Car racing is indeed extensive, ranging from penning
columns for several newspapers throughout Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee
over the past 15 years to announcing, public relations and media relations.
Sams has assembled an experienced staff of officials as well, including
technical director Billy Williamson and his wife, Shirley, who will handle
scoring, sign-in and record keeping among other duties.
"We look forward to rebuilding the fan and car owner interest in Sprint Car
racing throughout Alabama, Georgia and North Florida areas during the coming
years," Sams commented.
The framework for the inaugural ASCS Rebel Region schedule has already been put
in place with several tracks already committed, with more expected to add ASCS
Rebel Region events in the coming days.
The ASCS Rebel Region joins the American Sprint Car Series family of Regions
that already includes the Coastal Region, Gulf South Region, Mid-Atlantic
Region, Mid-South Region, Midwest Region, Northern Plains Region, Patriot
Region, Rocky Mountain Region, American Bank of Oklahoma Sooner Region, Heintz
Performance Southern Tour and the Engine Pro Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor
Reinz.
The 2007 season will mark the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the
American Sprint Car Series, with the series set to sanction more than 225 nights
of racing at approximately 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30
