Adams County Speedway Improvements Just Keep
Coming for 2006
Corning, Ia. (March 2, 2006) - The 2006 Adams County Speedway season is ready to
get rolling and the improvements to the facility and the show just keep on
coming for this, the 23rd season under the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series banner.
The biggest facility improvement provided by the Adams County Fair and Racing
Association is a new handicap viewing deck. This project is well under way and
should be completed very early in the season. A 75-foot deck is being installed
in the gap between the north set of grandstands and the newest double row of VIP
decks. The floor of this deck will be 10 foot above the ground so our
handicapped guests will have a much better view of the speedway. It will start
with ramp access and will have availability for a future upgrade of an elevator
for easier access.
Drivers and fans alike will appreciate the addition of AMB electronic scoring
that will be provided with the partnership of the Adams County Fair and Racing
Association, Hampel Racing, and sponsorship help from Coca-Cola. A scoring loop
will be buried in the track at the start-finish line and each car will be
equipped with a transmitter that will be scanned each time the car completes a
lap. AMB is the leader in the electronic scoring industry and is used at all
Nextel Cup tracks. With the tight packs of cars that run at ACS, this will
provide exact scoring, realignment and finish positions. This will also greatly
speed the realignment process under caution. After each event, fans will be able
to go to www.mylaps.com to see the running
order for each lap, a driver’s best lap time for that event, and the finish with
laps completed and how far behind the leader each driver was at the finish.
Drivers will also be able to log on to see all their individual lap times. The
system is ordered and will be up and running as soon as possible.
Practice day for the 2006 season is scheduled for April 8th. The pit gate will
open at 2:00 and hot laps will start between 4:00 and 5:00, depending on how
soon everyone gets signed in and NASCAR licenses purchased. Pit passes will be
$5. The grandstands will be open and have free admission.
Should practice day be cancelled due to weather, pit gate personnel will be at
J.O.’s in downtown Corning starting at 4:00 to process NASCAR licenses, register
car numbers, and collect the remainder of the pit pad fees. Please try to come
register if we rain out practice so we can help the pit gate lines for opening
night. Rain or shine, J.O.’s will host their annual practice day party with
roast pork sandwiches, pork-n-beans and coleslaw being served at 7:00 with
dancing starting at 9:00.
Opening night will be April 15. Grandstand admission will be $8 for adults, $6
for students, and 12 and under free. The grandstand will open at 5:00 with hot
laps at 6:30 and the first race of 2006 taking the track at 7:00. Opening night
pit gate will open at 4:00 at the latest. We may open the pit gate sooner
depending on the arrival and distribution of the AMB scoring system. We will
post that information at www.acspeedway.com
