A Few New and a Few Old Winners at Adams County Speedway
CORNING, IA (May 12) - Last week痴 rainout put 8 features on the schedule for
this week痴 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series action at the Adams County
Speedway. Winners in the makeup features were Brad Bergren, Jeremy Swanson, Dan
Mueller, and Trenton Jackson. Regular scheduled winners were Jim Tull, Mike
Garner, Jerry Carlson, and Chris Spieker.
In the makeup feature for the NAPA hobby stocks, Brad Bergren started in the
second spot and grabbed the lead right away. Keeping that lead would prove to be
the big challenge. Kevin Yearington was the first to mount a challenge and in
the late going the cars of Jim Tull and Ryan Vicker would provide the stiffest
test to Bergren. Bergren was up to the task as he scored his first ACS win ahead
of Tull, Vicker, Yearington and Matt Hudson.
Craig Garner paced the early laps of the makeup Northland Oil pro street feature
and after a mid-race accident claimed challengers Tony Hardisty and Ron
Ballinger, it was Jeremy Swanson who jumped up to claim the lead and Swanson
went on to record his first ACS Northland Oil pro street feature ahead of Greg
Miller, Steve Churchill, Craig Garner and Mike Garner.
Jeff Wiggins controlled the early laps of the makeup Budweiser modified feature
until Chris Hogan powered to the front. Hogan held the lead until Dan Mueller
took over and led the rest of the way. Jerry Carlson was second and John O誰eal,
Jr outdualled Chris Hogan and Jeremy Tibben for third.
Trent Jackson quickly found his way from his third starting spot in the makeup
Whelen late model feature to the lead. Once in the lead, Jackson ran comfortably
until late in the race when Karl Ritterbusch mounted a challenge. Ritterbusch
was able to pull even with Jackson on one occasion, but Jackson pulled back
ahead to score his first win in the Whelen late model class. Ritterbusch
maintained second ahead of Chris Spieker, Jason O達rien and Jamie Kinyon.
The NAPA hobby stock feature saw Matt Williamson pace the majority of the race
after starting on the pole. Williamson held the field at bay until only a few
laps to go when Jim Tull charged into the lead and went on to claim the win
ahead of Brad Derry, Brad Bergren, Kevin Yearington and Williamson.
The Northland Oil pro street feature had Dave Schafroth jump to the early lead
only to have Mike Garner and Jeff Orr soon take over the top two spots. The
majority of this race was a classic battle between Garner and Orr with each
driver leading several laps. At the end of the race, it was Orr pulling away
with Garner suffering from a broken suspension. Orr crossed the line first and
Garner limped across second, but post-race inspection of the Orr engine showed
it痴 compression to be too high, so Garner was awarded the win ahead of Greg
Miller, Schafroth, Steve Churchill and Kevin Jobe.
Jeff James led the first ten laps of the Budweiser modified until Jerry Carlson
finally worked up from his 11th starting position and into the lead. Once there,
Carlson cruised to the win ahead of Jeremy Tibben, James, Randy Foote and Dan
Mueller.
Troy McKee paced the Whelen late model feature for the majority of the race.
McKee held off the father and son duo of Justin and Leon Zeitner, but late in
the race, Chris Spieker had picked his way through the crowd to take over second
and started to hound McKee for the top spot. With fewer than five laps to go,
Spieker was able to sneak around the high side and secure the top spot and take
the win ahead of McKee, Leon Zeitner, Justin Zeitner and Trent Jackson.
