Jackson, Zeitner, Dennis, Churchill and Vicker take top honors at ACS

CORNING, IA. (June 9) - After two unsuccessful weeks of trying to complete the Nebraska-Iowa Challenger Series presented by Dodge, the night is finally complete. Fans were treated to some of the best 3 and 4 wide racing that the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series has been known for over the years at ACS. Trenton Jackson and Leon Zeitner took the Whelen late model features, Jesse Dennis claimed the Budweiser modified main, Steve Churchill topped the Northland Oil pro streets and Ryan Vicker outran the NAPA hobby stock field.

In the first Whelen late model feature, Leon Zeitner outran brother Al Zeitner to claim the early lead. With the Zeitners firmly in the top two spots, the shuffling for position behind them became greater with some late race cautions. Nothing would change with the top two spots as Leon Zeitner claimed the win ahead of Al Zeitner with Paul Glendenning, Jason O’Brien and Joe Kosiski rounding out the top five.

The second Whelen late model feature saw Trenton Jackson jump to a commanding lead. With no cautions to bunch the field, Chris Spieker spent several laps battling with Scott Koskovich to secure the second spot. Jackson appeared to be too far-gone for Spieker to reach until Jackson became bogged down with some lapped traffic. With only two laps left and Spieker up to Jackson’s bumper, Jackson threaded through the traffic and went on to his second feature win of the season ahead of Spieker, Koskovich, Joe Kosiski and Karl Ritterbusch.

Jeff James shot to the early lead in the Budweiser modified feature only to lose it by lap two to Jesse Dennis. Todd Van Eaton worked through traffic to secure the second spot as a big pack waged a fierce battle for third. In the end it was Dennis with first win of the season ahead of Van Eaton, Jeremy Tibben, Brian Foote and Chris Hogan.

The Northland Oil pro street feature can arguably be called the best race of the night. Steve Churchill did what he had to do and made the battle for the lead the only boring part of the race. With Churchill comfortably out front, the three and four wide racing behind that came with lane swapping and position swapping with minimal paint swapping. A.J. Miller and Craig Garner made it out of the battles to take second and third at the stripe behind Churchill as Greg Miller and Jeff Orr took fourth and fifth.

Rick Ritchie led the first two laps of the NAPA hobby stock feature until contact from Brent Ricker sent him spinning. On the restart, Brad Derry took command with Brad Bergren, Ryan Vicker and Jim Tull joining to make a four-car battle for the lead. Vicker emerged as the winner with Derry crossing the line second. Derry was later found with an illegal transmission so the top five official finish was Vicker, Tull, Bergren, Matt Hudson and Kevin Yearington.
