Spieker, Tibben, Churchill and Hudson win at Adams County Speedway

CORNING, IA (June 23) - It was Fan Appreciation night at the Adams County Speedway for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, and the fans should have been completely appreciative of what they saw. With great racing all night, there were no yellows in the heats and B’s, a few cautions in the features, and the final checkered flag flew at 10:08. Chris Spieker, Jeremy Tibben, Steve Churchill and Matt Hudson went home with the trophies for the evening.

Jesse Sobbing jumped out to the early lead in the NAPA hobby stock feature. That lead lasted for the first five laps until Matt Hudson charged through the pack to take over the top spot. Hudson slowly pulled away and left Sobbing to fend off the rest of the pack. As the checkered flew it was Hudson taking his second win of the year ahead of Brad Derry, Cody Werner, Jeff Tuttle and Trent Davison.

Jeremy Swanson led the first couple of laps of the Northland Oil pro street feature until Steve Churchill took over the spot. And by taking over the spot, in this race only meant being in front at the flagstand as Swanson kept just behind and sometimes beside Churchill for the position. Late in the race, Ron Ballinger and AJ Miller moved into the second and third positions, but in the end it was Churchill winning over Ballinger, Miller, Swanson and Mike Garner.

The Budweiser modified feature saw third starting Brian Foote get around the front row of Kevin Bills and Randy Foote to take the lap one lead. Brian Foote raced out to a comfortable lead until cautions bunched the field. The final caution with just two laps to go put Jeremy Tibben on the inside and Ryan Peckham on the outside behind Foote. Tibben was able to get a great restart and pull beside Foote to take the lead as the green flag waved, then Tibben waved goodbye as he let no one challenge him for the win. Foote crossed in second ahead of Peckham, Jerry Carlson and Dan Mueller.

Paul Glendenning’s mechanical woes of last week landed him a pole starting position for the Whelen late model feature and he prompted checked out from the competition. Chris Spieker worked into second by lap 7 and looked to need a caution to reel in Glendenning, and on lap 10 the caution waved. Over the last 15 laps, Glendenning and Spieker waged a classic battle with Glendenning holding back every advance Spieker could muster. Coming to the line with on two laps remaining, Spieker was able to make the pass for the lead, but then he had to do everything he could to hold the spot to take his fifth win on the season ahead of Glendenning, Jason O’Brien, Karl Ritterbusch and Jeremy Houck.
